Peptides promise weight loss, clearer skin, faster healing, and even longer life. But do they actually work?

Dr. Daniel Pompa breaks down the peptide trend and what people need to know before trying them. With peptides now sold widely online, quality and safety have become major concerns. Dr. Pompa explains why he is cautious about GLP-1 peptides for weight loss, including concerns about muscle loss and gaining weight back after stopping.

The episode also covers popular peptides like BPC 157 for healing and gut support, TB 500 for recovery, and GHK Cu for skin and collagen support. You will also hear about brain support peptides like Semax and Selank, gut options like KPV, and simple handling tips people often miss when using peptides.

Peptides, Hype, And Controversy

Dr Pompa

You want to learn about peptides? Well, this is your show. You're going to learn everything about peptides good, bad, the ugly, all of it. The controversy, you name it, the ones that I like, the ones I would never take myself, because lesson number one, not all peptides are good. Okay, let's start right there. As a matter of fact, uh, look, there is a lot of controversy right now. I don't know if you follow Joe Rogan, but he's even getting some heat because they're coming down that he's recommending peptides, uh, good, bad, or ugly. Who knows? But the fact is, is there's a lot of attention going to peptides right now. Of course, the peptide of all peptides, GLP1s, right? Those are in fact peptides. Um, but do I agree with GLP1s? The answer is absolutely not. So right away, uh you can tell that I don't like all peptides, that being one of them, because it actually causes you to lose not just weight, meaning fat, but it also causes you to lose muscle, connective tissue, and what happens when people come off of it? Yep, they gain weight four times faster when they come off the GLP1s, which is not good. And I know you can just microdose it. Okay, it just takes longer. But the fact is, is it disrupts how your body loses weight, absolutely affects your body's own production of GLP1s. There's a lot of issues there. Okay, so recently in the news, let's get right after that. RFK Jr. has said basically took the 19 peptides that the FDA has been, you know, looking at, and he took 14 of those and absolutely made them less controversial. That said, the movement is really about moving peptides into getting them only from practitioners, doctors, and which do I think is a good thing or a bad thing, because right now you can go to a lot of different sites and buy peptides. That's the fact. You can go online right now. And peptides are what we call in the gray zone, meaning that they have to be said on these sites that they're used for animal research only, which puts them in the gray zone, but people are able to buy them. That is going to change. And for, I do believe, good reason, because uh many of the peptides that people are buying online are from China. And I would argue at best, they're just simply not effective. So it's a waste of money. But at worst, they can be contaminated and cause other problems. So you have to absolutely, if you're going to enter into the peptide world, you better know your source. That is the point. And I think this new legislation is going to be a good thing where they're giving some restrictions on the companies, making sure that uh these are quality products. I think that is really smart. Look, peptides can be good, and um, especially if they're safe. All right, which peptides do I like? Let me let me say this right at the top of the show here that I'm not telling anyone to take a peptide because it is gray zone and oftentimes considered a medication. I'm not telling anyone not to take them. All I'm doing is delivering some information here. And yes, I can tell you some of the things that have been good for me. Um, you know, my family, my wife, uh, but I'm not going to tell you to take any of these. I'll tell you what uh some of the things, uh the results that some people find that it's good for. Okay, so I think some of the safest peptides are the BPC157, that is the body protecting compound 157, which helps your body heal. How do I use this peptide? And by the way, most of the peptides actually come in a little vial where you see a little powder in the bottom that that's called life, it's lipalized, meaning it's in a little fat ball to protect it because these peptides are very fragile. So you have to be very careful with them, even when you take this uh bacteriostatic water, and that's what you have to do. So when you get the peptides, you also want to see if the company sells or gives you bacteriostatic water to reconstitute the lipalized peptide. So that little powder, you end up pulling up a certain amount of the water, putting it in, and now it's lipalized. And typically you have three months to use that. If they're still in the powdered form, you can keep them in the refrigerator or even the freezer for a long time without losing or degrading the product. So, but once you lipolize it, typically you have about three months. Now, I said they're fragile. That means that even when you put that water in, you want to put it in gently. And you can use a regular insulin needle, typically 30 gauge, which you can find places online. But in if you get them from your doctor, he'll they'll provide them for you. But you can, when you put the water in, you want to squirt it down the side, not directly into the powder because the powder is that fragile. And here's uh what you don't ever do. You don't ever shake any peptide. Some are more fragile than others, but you don't shake them. You once you put the water in, you simply turn it. And again, the person who provides the peptides for you can tell you how to reconstitute it, meaning how much bacteriostatic water. Typically, it's around two mls, which would be two full insulin syringes into that. And then you have to look at the dose. And again, I'm not going to give you dosing. That's something you know you would work out with one of the practitioners who helped you get the peptide, but uh you want to dose it appropriately. And of course, it, you know, most peptides are subcutaneous, where either the butt or the belly fat is the way to go. And you're only using an insulin needle, so it's maybe a half-inch little needle in a 30 gauge, very thin, you don't even feel it. Um, I prefer the butt over the belly, only because in the belly you actually can create some little nodules that build up. Um, in the butt, typically not. Okay, so I know it's TMI, but the fact is, is there is a right way to do it. And again, your practitioner can help you with that. But the BPC 157 is one of my favorites. That particular one, um, I actually inject closer to a joint of injury. So if you have an injury or something that won't heal, a tendonitis that works great for that, then you can inject it near or around that. Typically, they say within three inches of the injury is best. That said, you can also just, you know, direct it into the belly fat or the butt fat, and you're gonna get a systemic benefit. I said most peptides are in fact um subcutaneous injectable, but many of them also are oral. In the case of BPC157, I actually prefer the oral peptides. I will give you a company on that one called integrative peptides. They have some good oral peptides, and um, but the oral is better for the gut. So people that have gut problems, gut inflammation, oral BPC157 is tremendous. Okay, another one that is typically matched with it. This one acts more systemic healing. So it would go typically in the butt or the belly, and it's TB500. TB500 helps you recover, it helps you heal faster. And even I like it for the gut. Uh, so if you're taking the BPC, I think uh teaming it up with the um uh the TB1500 with the BPC157 is a very good one. And I'll add one more often to that combination that helps the skin and it also helps joints in recovery, but it does help the skin connective tissue, collagen. So it is probably known as one of the anti-aging peptides. It is GHKCU. I have dyslexia, so it's amazing that I could actually come up with these three letters because I can never come up with three letters, but it's it's known as copper peptide. It actually, once you reconstitute it, it actually has a blue color to it. Um, that one is done just systemically, so butterbelly as well, but it does, in fact, help the face. Now, they also have some different creams you can buy on some of the websites that you can um rub onto the face. And look, you know, copper in too high a dose is not a good thing, but it it really acts more as a chaperone to copper and helps your body utilize it better. So it doesn't necessarily raise uh your copper level, but it is so beneficial into the skin. Again, it's fragile. So uh the skin products, you know, you have to be a little careful even with those, not to heat them, not to put them in uh direct sunlight, etc., because it will degrade uh that product very rapidly. Okay, so those three I think um really can be beneficial for your joints, for healing, and your tissue. Uh look, lady, oftentimes there's uh a combination. I think that they put those three together in a new product called glow. You know, for the skin sounds really good. Um, so you know, if you see the word glow or you hear your friends taking glow, it is those three. So you can um not be confused if that's the case. Okay, let me get a little more specific about some of the other peptides. Um, another peptide called endotes. It does, it's not a hormone. It sounds like a hormone because of the word test, but it's not. But it helps the pituitary. It helps you uh naturally produce growth hormone, which can be anti-aging. And um it is also good for libido. And so many people um will take it in the morning, just as in general help to their hormones, but oftentimes it's taken before sex because it helps that. So um, because it does usher in blood flow, and so it can be beneficial for men and women. So endotests is one that a lot of people are taking. Um, there is another one that's good for muscle, muscle growth and hormones called SS31. And that is, again, a very safe peptide. I don't like any peptides that hit your hormones directly. Uh, these because that shuts down your hormone production. So these aren't hormones, they just support your body's own production. So that is one you'll often hear about or see is the SS31. What about gut health? I I already mentioned the BPC157, the TB500, but LL37 is also beneficial more for pathogens, um, but it helps gut healing in general. And I tell you, I've really seen a lot of people benefit from LL37. Uh, that's that is a really good peptide. Um, another one um that is getting more popular, I would say, is the testamorlin. And that is also a hormone assist where it helps your body does help with growth hormone, um, which again, growth hormone is anti-aging. It helps with um just general muscle tone. Um, but testamorlin also, and I think this is why it's getting more popular, testamorlin also uh uh helps with fat loss. So a very good one for fat loss. LL37, great for the gut, but also KPV is really good for the gut in that combination as well. KPV seems to help with a lot of food intolerances, gut inflammation in general, and it seems to even help with allergies in general. Integrated peptides, I said some of them you can get orally. You can actually get KPV. I'll tell you, they're expensive though. I think that they're very difficult to make, but KPV does help with histamine reactions, histamine responses, um, and also the gut. So you could take that with the BBC 157 oral along with the KPV, really good gut um peptide. What about the brain? Well, there's a couple for the brain. The the C-link, it's S-E-L-I-N-K. Um, that, and that's typically it helps with the brain in general, but also with um anxiety. Another great one is C-Max, S E-M-A-X, uh, just all around to prevent aging of the brain, uh, utilized for any brain condition. So uh love C-MAX. And um, I would say my wife really likes C-MAX. So that's a good one. The other one that's very popular right now is epithalin. Epithalin is just anti-aging. It's said to actually help our telomere, that's our biological clock that protects our DNA. So epithalin seems to help their sensitivity to the other peptides. So that's a really good one. And then there's a couple other growth hormones on the subject of anti-aging. Um, the growth hormone peptides, CJC, um, is one that everybody loves for growth hormone. And it's often paired with epimorlin, which is another growth hormone. And again, it's not growth hormone, it just helps your body make its own. Here's the thing I think that the truth is around those, I've used those. They're expensive. And I don't know that I get a lot of bang for the buck on those like I do with the BPC 157 and the uh the TB500. I I think that there's other better choices there. Um, and I think the uh endo uh endo test actually works even a little better and possibly even testamorlin. So uh that that's my opinion. So some of the questions um some people ask me is is it better to buy them individual vials um or sometimes they sell them in combinations? Well, first of all, you want to make sure that they mix well together. Um, and because some people will just, again, some of these uh more slimy websites, they'll just put things together that really shouldn't be together. So, you know, if you're buying from a reputable source, they'll only put them together if they, you know, really go well together, meaning they don't oxidize each other. And also sometimes you can overstimulate. Uh, and it's better not to take them at the same time a day, let alone in the same bottle. So again, a reputable source will help you with that. You know, I'm probably more one that likes them individually because you can get the active dose. And sometimes when you take them together, you're not getting the full dose, um, which you know, they're doing that because of the cost of the peptide. But anyway, but some of them, it's probably easier, like glow, to get all of them if you're taking uh a combination product. In conclusion, not all peptides are good. Look, those are just the ones that I know that I've experienced either with myself or, you know, my wife. Um, but uh look, I think it really is important to contact one of your providers, someone that really understands and knows peptides, a practitioner that's used them, knows how to reconstitute them, has a very good source uh to get them so they're clean, they're safe and effective. Not every peptide is created equal. Again, I don't like the peptides that push hormones. I prefer the ones that just help your body uh make your own hormones, even become more sensitive to the hormones. So I hope that helps. This was a uh podcast that I wanted to get right to the point, give people the information. And these are the questions that I'm typically asked. Share the podcast.
