The Fear Of Going Back
Dr Pompa
When I was sick, dying was easy. It was living my life the way it was. My greatest fear. Admittedly, I have PTSD about going back.
SPEAKER_00
When you want to be the best football player as much as you want to breathe, you'll become the best football player. You either reap the rewards or you suffer the consequences. It's that simple. It is binary. We lie to ourselves. We tell lies every single day, but it's to ourselves, not to others.
Dr Pompa
But it becomes part of our story. It becomes the point where we believe, so it's not a lie because we believe it. I have reversed my cellular age to such a degree. I'm many years younger than my actual age. The discipline has come through my fear, honestly. Life will punch you in the face. All it means is your plan changed because God had a new plan. Are you stuck? All right, look, you tried everything. You're still not where you want to be. Maybe it's your health, maybe it's just life in general. Okay, you would say these words. Ah, look, Doc, I've tried it all. If it's your health, I've tried every exercise, every biohack, every supplement. Or maybe it's just life in general. Look, I've hired a coach. I've done this, I've done that. All right, I can assure you this it's not your genetics. Don't I say that all the time? All right, it's definitely not your age. All right, we're making excuses for ourselves. All right, my next guest is going to break through to the one thing. We're gonna discuss the one thing that most likely is keeping you stuck. But we're gonna expose. I'm gonna we're gonna give you three things to unstuck you. That's what this episode is
Why Most People Stay Stuck
Dr Pompa
about. And I'm here with Steve Mitman. Thank you for being here, Steve. Thank you for having me. Steve, I want to start right here. My listeners, most of them, I would say, are people who have would say they've tried everything, they've done whether it's every diet, supplement, biohack, right? Because they're chasing something. Maybe it's a thyroid condition, gut problem hormone, or maybe it's just weight loss, right? Maybe it's just you know, they feel stuck in their life. And I would say most would say that because we get the feedback. They feel stuck in where they are, right? So how would you answer that? You have a deep background in martial arts, you've worked with Larry Holmes, who I laughed in the beginning because I'm like, I might be the only one. I'm dating myself who knows who Larry Holmes. So we're gonna probably get into that. Sure. Great boxer, professional boxer, you know, Muhammad Ali Days, um, and Mike Tyson. Sure. You've been a professional announcer on, you know, the professional stage, so to speak. So my point is you've, you know, having this background, you've worked with professional athletes at a very high level. You've worked with people who are stuck. But literally now you've realized helping people who are stuck that I just described, it's the same solution, which we're gonna give them the solution. Okay, so what would you say to Mary Bob, who's sitting out there right now saying, that's me, I'm stuck? What would you say?
SPEAKER_00
It all comes down to the mind, the mindset. You mentioned Larry Holmes, you mentioned boxers and athletes and MMA fighters. I don't care any but anybody on a high level, it all comes down to the mind. Okay. The mind, the mindset, because you can try all of these things. Um, and I always say to people too, about about you and uh about you know, Pompa Program. And it's not that you have one magic pill or one magic vitamin that's just oh, that's the solution. It's a system, it's a process. And every one of these high-level performers you mentioned, they follow a process. Right. And also you follow someone that has followed that path before. Search out, find those people. Whether you're talking boxing or you're talking MMA or you're talking baseball, or you're talking, uh, you want to be the best lawyer, the best attorney, the best doctor. It doesn't matter. I mean, if you if you want the greatest, see maybe I'm a little biased towards you, of course, because I've I'm on the inside, I'm in the inside. I see the quite miraculous things that happen really. But but then again, is it just if you follow the process, the body heals itself. So is it a miracle? I don't know. Maybe, I mean, we know that God's involved, we know that. But the thing is, if you follow the process, follow someone that has followed the path, that has been there, done that. It's not rocket science at that point, then. It's not.
Dr Pompa
Yeah. Well, I it you're right. It's not rocket science. Remove the interference. God designed the body to heals, uh, heal. And yet I've spent 20 years educating doctors of like reminding them, remove the interference, man. It's not button about another biohack. But to your point, though, mindset could be the thing that we need to remove, meaning the bad mindset. Your podcast is called Attack Life, not others. Correct, right? Correct. Yeah. So you know, it's like I kind of want you to bring some light into that because one of the things that my wife always says is, you know, in a anything bad that happens, you have a choice to become better or bitter. 100%. That's kind of what you're saying there, but could it be that easy?
SPEAKER_00
Better or bitter. Yeah. Adversity, challenges, pain, pain to purpose, suffering. You have a choice. It's either going to define you or it's going to refine you. Which is it going to be? And can can I I know this is where you wanted to go, but speaking of fine, can we have a little fun here? Yeah, man.
Dr Pompa
Let's do it. Let's do it.
SPEAKER_00
Two of my favorite podcast episodes you did was one with El McPherson and two with Ava, because you were just having so much fun on those shows. So if I could just sort of kick this off with a little fun. So I was already working for you for a good amount of time.
Dr Pompa
And by the way, let's disclose that. Yeah. Yeah. So now, I mean, you do all that you do, okay. Plus, and I I didn't, you know, even get into some of the things you do, but and you now you help people move into Pompa program. You're one of the people that people talk to, yeah, and you're super effective at it because of what we're talking about today, because you realize that they're getting in their own way of being healthy. Yeah. I just wanted to disclose that because you brought it up.
SPEAKER_00
Well, and we'll talk more about that, of course. But I got to tell you, number one, it's quite an honor. Number two, I've done a lot, but this is the this is this is my calling. This is my purpose because of everything I've gone through. And we can talk about the pain, the adversity, and all of that. But where I was going was I was working for you for a good amount of time. And my wife and I, we have um really, really good friends. And these are good people. They're Italian, okay, from Sicily, old world, old school people.
Dr Pompa
My grandmother was from Sicily.
SPEAKER_00
Okay.
Dr Pompa
My my father's family was from a little place called Castelluccio Bavoria.
SPEAKER_00
Okay. All right. So this couple, the husband and wife, I mentioned um, you know, hey, and I said I'm working with Dr. Pampa. Do you know of you know who he is by chance? And uh the wife, I never saw her light up like that. Oh my gosh, Dr. Yeah, he's that really good looking guy, right? I'm like, well, and I'm like, well, I mean, usually people follow him because he's a world leader in, you know, metabolic health and cellular detoxification, nutrition, diet variation, things such as that. But yeah, if you want to follow him because he's good looking, you could do that too. But no, she knew who you were, and it was just it made her day. And it was, it was a pretty cool thing. So I just thought, speaking of fine, Dr. Pompa.
Dr Pompa
So is that where we're going, the fine, the fine. I was thinking about that.
SPEAKER_00
Refine or define. I mean, adversity, challenge, suffering. What are you gonna do with it? It's a choice, and the choice is yours, and it comes down to your mind. Listen, I think the only thing worse than no sense of reality is a false sense of reality. Meaning, meaning, life is full of suffering. Life is full of suffering. If you haven't encountered it yet, you will, and I don't mean to be pessimist, be a pessimist by saying that, but it's just the truth of the fact. There's a lot of suffering and then moments of bliss, moments of joy in between all of the suffering. But it's what you do with that suffering that either defines you or refines you. You chose to let it refine you, and that's your life's purpose at this point. And it's the ripple effect to uh tens of thousands, and hopefully eventually.
Dr Pompa
Not at first, right? I I went through the process of feeling sorry for myself. Yeah, hopeless. You know, I mean, yeah, yeah. So I well to be clear, it's a process. Yeah, it's a it is a pro, and that's what you teach. It's a process, right? Meaning it's you know, people tend to, how do you say it? I um you says don't look at it as um defining it as um uh an episode, it's a process.
SPEAKER_00
It is. Listen, I mean, you listen, you wouldn't be human if you didn't feel the woe is me, the whole victim, but but it's what you do with it. Do you stay there or do you find the courage, the hope, the faith to break out of it? I mean, listen, we've I've had my share of adversity. No need to get into specifics because we've all been there in some way, shape, or form, in some fashion. And if you haven't, you probably will at some point. But it comes down to faith, comes down to family, comes down to friends. Um, I mean, I had a great, great, great friend. Thank God for him, he would text me every single day going through one of these adversities. Um, it was a nightmare. It was a nightmare at the time. Um, text me just FFF. FFF. Just let me know that he was thinking about me, he was there, and that I wasn't alone. But you know what? Wait, faith, family, friends, faith, family, friends, yeah, for sure. But and and of course, faith is number one. Yeah. Um you mentioned attack life, not others.
Mindset Beats Every Biohack
SPEAKER_00
That's my podcast. And and and I think so much is just in that name, just like your podcast, so much is in pain to purpose, so much is in that. But attack life, not others. We could take it so many different directions. I think the world is hurting, the world is hurting. I think there's so much division. I don't think I know it's obvious that I mean what's in the world.
Dr Pompa
Right now, so I mean you can't turn the television on with the wall out without watching people attacking others. I mean, physically and verbally in every way, division is huge.
SPEAKER_00
And it doesn't matter who you watch. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if it's Fox or CNN or it's it's just division, no matter what. What's up is down, down is up, left, right, right, left. Republican, Democrat, liberal, conservative. It doesn't matter. Everybody's attacking, and you know what? Um how to attack life. Imagine if we took even 10% of that energy and that emotion and attacked life, attacked life, not others, but what does that come down to? Comes down to taking accountability and responsibility for the other.
Dr Pompa
So now you're into the details, right? So attack life, because I was gonna ask, what does that actually mean? Yeah. So that's what you're saying. So in the attack life, how do you attack life?
SPEAKER_00
Well, that's why so much of it relates to what you do, okay? We are what we consume. And I don't mean necessarily food. I mean the mental, the emotional, the spiritual, the psychological. What do we, you're the sum total of the five people you hang around. You're the sum total of what you ingest, what you inhale, what you eat, what you consume. And what I mean by consume is are you is it social media? Are you doom scrolling from the moment you wake up? How you begin your day is how the rest of your day is gonna unfold. That's a choice. It's a choice. So it all comes down to choices because every single choice has an impact. You either reap the rewards or you suffer the consequences. It's that simple. It is binary, binary. It is black or white. It's not, there's no gray. You either reap the rewards or you suffer the consequences. The problem is, is we we're so short-sighted, and that's just a flaw of us, you know, as humans, we're so short-sighted, we don't see the ramifications of what it looks like down the road, months and years later. So, with people that you work with, for instance, listen, if you have a slice of pizza, if you have a donut, no, that one French fry is not gonna kill you. But weeks and months and years, yes, it does. Absolutely. Yes, it does.
Dr Pompa
Yeah, and it forms cravings, right? Meaning, even saying negative things forms more cravings to say more negative things. Yes, attacking people. Yeah, back to your thing, right? You know what I'm saying? So every time that's why I have found it easier just to, you know, get rid of things completely, right? It's like that I know are ruining my life or keeping me stuck. Right. And again, my goal here is to get people unstuck, right? How like, okay, so how did this come out of? I think you're a black belt at age 14. Did I get that right?
SPEAKER_00
Uh 16 or something.
Dr Pompa
Yeah. Okay. So, you know, obviously that requires quite a bit of discipline. Right. And then you've obviously impacted professionals all, you know, throughout your career. How did this all come out of that? Meaning, like, kind of take me through that process of learning what you've dealt with with dealing with professional athletes in this transition into okay, the average person being stuck because, man, I can't control my diet. I I know these things are bad for me. I'm I still scrolling my social media, starting my day, ending my day that way. I gotta stop, dude. I'm stuck. And again, I I do believe people start a diet in January as an example or have times where they're they're doing it and then they're back, and this cycle perpetuates. Like, you know, how did the solution to that come out of dealing with professional
Discipline Built Through Small Wins
Dr Pompa
athletes?
SPEAKER_00
It comes down to one word again, and that's discipline. And I know that's easier said than done, but it's discipline. Now, how do you create discipline? Yeah, yeah.
Dr Pompa
See, right right there, like, you know, people are turning us off. Yeah, I get it's like discipline. Yeah, I know.
SPEAKER_00
But how do we get there? Well, it's a muscle. And you either you're either gonna build it up or you're gonna break it down. And it's not the big things, it starts with the minor things. Okay. So, like, for instance, in the military, uh, they make their bed every single morning before they leave, right? It's the little things such as that. They polish their shoes. How you do one thing is how you do everything.
Dr Pompa
I tell my son that all the time. Because he's like, Dad, you you're always so into it. I'm like, Yeah, well, how you do one thing is how you do everything. That's why I want it done right.
SPEAKER_00
I think the world is uh, I think we're so full of chaos right now, okay? But that's the natural state, is chaotic. Okay. We need to find some order in that. How do you do that? The discipline to follow the process. And no, you don't have to be perfect. And listen, I don't want to sit here and preach like I have all the answers. My gosh, am I far from that? It's just that you asked, you asked about martial arts. I was so blessed at a young age to have that, the mindset, the the principles, the tenets from martial arts, not just any martial arts, but one of, well, a great mentor. His name is Tim, Tim Hoover, who who I actually co-host the podcast with. And we take all of these tenants from the martial arts. You're answering my question now.
Dr Pompa
Yes. So that's it. So you're taking the tenants that you know, every because the tenants of the black belt karate, it's the same tenants that Mike Tyson, who you, you know, obviously Larry Holmes you've worked with. It's, you know, those tenants are what you're doing the same thing with these people who are stuck not being able to change their diet or their life or they're miserable, right? So same tenants. Correct. All right. So you know, can you give the the viewers right now some of these tenants? Meaning you you drew the analogy of the military. They they do that for a reason, right? The shoes, the bed, because they're they're creating the discipline, right? And people that come out of the military, that carries on for their whole life. Am I right about that? It does. Okay. So kind of take us through that.
SPEAKER_00
Well, just like you, there's no one secret. It's not like, oh, if you take this capsule or this vitamin, they'll you'll be perfect. It's it's a combination of all and everything, but it's it's you know what it comes down to? It's biblical principles, is what it is faith, loyalty, courage, uh, humbleness, modesty. These are spiritual principles. I I just saw the episode you did with Dr. Fab. That was amazing as well. I mean, I just resonated with him. You remind me of Dr.
Dr Pompa
Fab. That's so funny you just said that. Well, that is a huge comment. No, because I I say that because Dr. Fab he's amazing. He changes people's lives um when he touches their life. Yeah, and it's it's it's like an infectious disease to the positive. Meaning, like as soon as you're around Dr. Fab, you're smiling. As soon as you're around him, you start to change. You're you're he's influential in a such a positive way because that's who he is. Yeah, and that's kind of what you're saying.
SPEAKER_00
Well, that's yeah, thank you for saying that. I love how you said it's infectious. Energy is contagious, okay? So it's either gonna be good or bad. You can you walk into a room and you just just a simple smile and you can light up that room and change everyone else's. It's not about you, it's not about you, it's about everyone else. What you can do to help others, and that was a huge thing. See, I'm I'm so I got all these different things. I can't wait to get them all out. I know we're just gonna sit back and relax. But it's like, it's like these this is the process.
Dr Pompa
I just need to let you go because you got it all in you, man. Go say it.
SPEAKER_00
To sit here and chat with you about all this because I know you get it.
Dr Pompa
I know you know, no, no, I just want them to get it. Because sometimes I when I speak about these things, I I don't I it's not, I wouldn't say it's my area of expertise, but I've trained people and coached people for so long, you know, that I, you know, I just sometimes do it intuitively. Um, I just kind of do it, but I don't know how to you know communicate it.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah. When I talk to people um that might potentially want to work with you and our team of experts, I say, listen, you're either gonna be loving me in you know, six months, ten months, twelve months from now, or you're gonna be hating me. I'm letting you know that it's not all rainbows and unicorns, meaning you have to we and I always say, maybe I'm a little biased, and uh yes I am, but it could be the greatest health protocol on the planet, which I think it is, but and I do too, but we can't come do it for you. You have to be the one to do it. That begins with your mind. Are you ready to stop? See, you think you've tried everything. You think you've tried everything, but have you? Have you? Do you really believe that we have that God-given innate ability to heal? Do you? Yes or no? Yes or no? Yes, I do. Well, then you know there's a solution out there, yeah.
Dr Pompa
Right. I I think when someone makes the statement, I've tried everything, it's a statement more of like a little loss of hope. Yeah. Because in you know that you wouldn't even be trying the next thing or looking or even having the conversation if you didn't think there was something. Yeah, right. So saying you tried everything is is communicating like I'm no slug. I'm willing to do anything, I've done everything, right? I've been looking, I'm hammering, I'm trying, but yet I love I'm losing hope because nothing's worked. Yeah. You know, don't you think that that's kind of that slow. 100%.
SPEAKER_00
You're absolutely right. It all comes down to hope. And then I'll dig a little deeper with that. Oh, well, what you what have you tried? Well, you know, I'm on a lot of vitamins and and I stopped using the microwave. Oh, you stopped using the microwave. Well, that's that's good. So I mean, just by and and I don't mean to be smart, Alec. I don't mean to be, but do you think by you know not using the microwave anymore that all of a sudden the diabetes is gonna go away, the blood pressure is gonna get under control? Oh, no, no, well, what else what else have you tried? Well, so you haven't really tried everything.
Dr Pompa
If you just say the microwave, that actually probably happened. Someone actually said that right. Um, that someone used that as something that they did. Uh that do you think that they really believe that like that's part of the solution? I don't know.
SPEAKER_00
That's that's the thing. I think I think people, and and again, listen, I don't have all the answers. All I know is that I've gotten from point A to point B. So maybe, maybe I know a little bit of what I'm not in all areas, but in certain areas when it comes to the mind. And that's a mind thing. It's not a physical thing, it's a mind thing. Meaning, the microwave, really? Do you really believe that? Well, you got to call them out on that because I think people we lie to ourselves, we tell lies every single day, but it's to ourselves, not to others.
Dr Pompa
Yeah, I mean, maybe to others too. But it becomes part of our story, it becomes the point where we believe it. So it's not a lie because you we believe it.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah, yeah. Because it, well, I hate to say it, but it comes down to accountability and responsibility again. Because I think if we if we told the truth, and I'm talking about to ourselves, that means we'd have to do something about it. And if we have to do something about it, well, then that means we have to make the hard decisions sometimes. And it's easier to be, I guess the old saying, you know, ignorance is bliss. I guess it's easier sometimes to be ignorant, but then again, you suffer the consequences of that, or you can reap the rewards by making the hard choice, the hard decision to actually take control. And again, you can't control everything. You can't, but control what you can, control the controllables. And then when you have a system or you have the process, it all comes back down to the process that you have in place. Follow the process, and amazing things happen.
Dr Pompa
Yeah. I see the I for me. Here's the process. It's worked, it works, you know, and it's different for everybody. Yeah, the process at Pompa program. Uh detox is different for everyone. Doses, um, downstream support, yeah, uh, cycle lengths. I mean, I I could tell you why, you know, real detox is very, very different for everyone. So here, not you know, we're not handing someone uh, you know, a single box and saying, ah, it's the same. Yeah. Um, that's what makes it hard though, right? Because there is this, the there's an art and Science to it. Okay. But what I say all that to say that's the hardest part is where you're the expert. The hardest part is people get in their way. People feel adversity, certain symptoms. Life gets tough. They stop. It really is the mindset. If you, if we analyzed the people, people see all these testimonies out there that people have been through POMPA program. Autoimmune. I just ran into a girl. I don't know if you were on the call I was on, but I was at Smile Body. It's a dental clinic. I've interviewed those dentists right here. And um, exactly. And I was at their clinic uh just to do some biohacks that day. And I walk in right at the front desk. She says, Oh my gosh, I'm here because of you. Yeah. I've been in your program for, you know, whatever it was like almost two years, and I'm just now getting to this. But let me tell you how my life has already changed, right? Anyways, and then I walk back into the back, and this woman has been in the program uh eight months, two autoimmune. She had three autoimmune, two are already in remission. Wonderful. And I said to her, the third is about to be, because once you deal with these hidden infections that they do at Smile Body, uh, your life's gonna change. Ava just got a text last week and her all her pain's gone. Like this woman. So she's like already like, oh my God, like wonderful. You know, you're right. Um, I I say all that to say um get you people hear these breakthroughs and these testimonies, and they say, you know, gosh, I want that. But if you analyzed all of them, they had one thing in common. They were gonna do whatever it took. Right. And to this woman that I met, she said, I'm like, oh, here you are, you know, Beverly Hills area, you know, did you see this? No, we just came here. She's like, I've never been out of my hometown. Yeah. She's like, going to Target's a big deal for me. I I wanted to like hug her and I think I did. Anyways, but my point was is they didn't even have the means to be there. Okay. It's like, meaning they found it, they're finding it. They didn't have the how they're gonna pay for it. But like, that's the attitude that these people have. You know, if you would have asked me when I was sick, like, you know, if you just said standing on your head in the corner for, you know, 10 minutes is part of the protocol, I'd have been like, is 20 better? Yeah. Like, how do we create that, man? Because that's the that's the people that get the responses.
SPEAKER_00
Can I share a story
Want It Like You Want Air
SPEAKER_00
with you? Yes. Now I cannot, I cannot take claim to this. I can't. We've shared it multiple times on our podcast, uh, and it's not ours. So it's out there somewhere. But that's exactly this story. We'll sum that up. So there's uh an old football coach, and he's retired now, and he's on the he's living on the beach. He's like a hermit crab. He doesn't, you know, he's he spent his days training amazing champions and all of that. And those days are behind him now. Anyhow, there's uh an up-and-coming football star, and he he wanted to seek out this coach. He wanted to go to the best because he wanted to become the best. And um, he found him, okay, and he said, Hey, can you coach me? You know, hey, coach, please, please, no, no, no, I'm done with that. I'm done with that. Please, please, no. And this went on for weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks. Okay. Finally, he talked to me and he said, All right, listen, if you want, if you want to become the best, here's what we're gonna do. I want to, I want you to meet me tomorrow on the beach in the ocean, 5 a.m. Do not be a minute late. So he shows up, he shows up at 4:30 a.m. And the coach was already there. He's in the ocean and he sees the coach, and uh he the coach beckons him to come on out in the ocean. And uh, so he swims on out. He he's waiting out in the ocean, and uh, he doesn't even say anything. He just grabs his head and dunks him under. And he's like, he can't even breathe. He can't breathe. He lets him back up and he dunks him under again. My first thought would have been glad I wasn't late.
Dr Pompa
Yeah, right, right.
SPEAKER_00
He might have drowned me for good. He was expecting all these fancy high-tech, you know, futuristic training methods and all the he said, What are you doing for, coach? What are you doing? What are you doing? He goes, Listen, do you want to breathe? Oh, of course, of course. When you want to be the best football player as much as you want to breathe, you'll become the best football player. It's that simple. You have to want it as much as you want to breathe. I mean, I know you you can make it what you want of it from that, but it's yeah, you have to, it comes down to your why.
Dr Pompa
Yeah, but I mean, wouldn't I mean I would think that anyone watching this that is trying to get to another level of life, you know, I'm saying, and and you know, health being one of the things we're talking about, I would think that everyone would be like, of course I want it that bad. I wouldn't you think that you'd think that I always ask people that.
SPEAKER_00
I say, well, you're here right now. Where do you want to get to? Here, here, here. And obviously everybody's answer is it's almost a rhetorical question. Of course I want to be there. Really? Really? Are you willing to do what it takes? And it's not that you gotta jump through hoops or do cartwheels or stand one foot, but it's like, are you willing to do what it takes? And not everybody is.
Dr Pompa
Because you deal with more people at at the front level than I do um now. But is do you find that most people uh want to do what it takes or or not?
SPEAKER_00
It all depends. You want to know the truth? Yeah, obviously you do. I think I think the people that um have suffered enough, you got it. Listen, Tony Robbins says the pain of staying the same has to be greater than the pain of change. Right. Otherwise, we're not willing to make any changes. You know, why would we? Why would we? Why would we if status quo is just so sober, that answer, yeah, then why would we change? And the other saying is, you know, you gotta kill good to become great. You gotta kill good to become great. So the people that the people that are dealing with, you know, the really bad metabolics and the the cancers, the really advanced diabetes that are they don't have a choice, they have no choice. So it's like, what's the alternative at that point? It's just again, human beings, and myself included, please understand. I'm not preaching. Myself included, we're we're short-sighted, all right? We don't see long-term ramifications, and we we almost have trouble seeing five years, ten years, twenty years down the road. But at that point, I'm not gonna say it's too late, but why wait?
Dr Pompa
So you're saying there's two groups the people that come in and they have some energy problems. Um, you know, they said my thyroid's not functioning great. You know, I uh you know, I'm not sleeping like I should. I have aches and pains, but that's normal. Um, I get headaches, period, but that's normal. I get gut problems, but that's normal. So those people you're you have trouble moving.
SPEAKER_00
And they'll blame it more so than age, getting older, which is not true. It's a fallacy. It doesn't have to be like that. I mean, I I meet, you know, and we've all seen it. You you can see a young, spry 85-year-old, or you could see a person who's 35 who's wow, it's sad. They're it's they're they're falling apart already at 35. Oh, yeah. See a lot these days.
Dr Pompa
Yeah. Right. But that two groups of people. I'm gonna uh you as the the professional here on the front lines, let's deal with both of those people because people watching this right now, they're the people that are you know have some energy issues, some things that, you know, it's all their friends have it, so it becomes normal. That said, yeah, they still would like to be able to get through a day with lasting energy. They still would like to get through a day without a headache or you know, a week, maybe they have them once or twice a week, or their gut problem, or you know, whatever it is. Let's talk to them first because the other group is the people who lost their life. I'm gonna do anything because life's not worth living. You know, I got to a point where that was me. I was in that group. I didn't living life like it was was more scarier than dying. When someone gets to that point, it's you know, standing on a head every day for 10 minutes, you know, is 20 better. That's where you get to, right? Right. But let's deal with the group that you know, let's try to move that. So we'll we'll call this person Mary.
Role Play: The Stuck Health Seeker
Dr Pompa
Okay, so Mary comes to you, she you're on the phone with Mary or Zoom, yeah. And yeah, I have some energy loss. Yeah. Okay, I'll be Mary. You're gonna be Steve. Okay. Um, you know, I yeah, I just have some energy loss. Um it's you know, it's it is, you know, it's beencome harder to get through a day, you know. But I I typically do coffee. I admit sometimes I do a Red Bull. Um my doctor put me on some thyroid medication. I I think that helped a little bit, um, but I still have weight that I don't like that I can't lose. I got rid of my microwave, so I'm doing some better things, but I'm just not where I want to be.
SPEAKER_00
Well, number one, Mary, do you do you even think you can get better? Do you even think that's a possibility? Yeah, I I do. Okay. Um why would you want to? Like it's great that we're here, but why would you want to? Well, what's wrong with the thyroid meds? What's wrong with just pushing through? Because most people do, and that's okay. Yeah.
Dr Pompa
Uh, you know, I just I think I lost a little of enjoyment out of life. I there's some things that I'm probably not able to do as much. My husband will say at the end of the day, let's let's go get dinner somewhere. And I'll be honest with you, I there's many times where I'm like, I I say no. Honestly, I just don't feel like I have the energy to do so. I'd rather honestly just get in my pajamas, crawl up on the couch. It it does. You'd like to not say no. Yeah, I think it's affecting our relationship.
SPEAKER_00
Really? And uh, do you think he gets upset at that? Is it like oh I know he does. You know he does. Okay. So is that could be a problem. Is is do I mean, are you willing to let that continue then? Um, you know, what's it gonna look like?
Dr Pompa
I I guess that's why I'm talking to you, right? I I want to do something about it.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah, okay. All right. Well, I typically would let people know, yeah, we there's lots of things we can do, but it's not as simple as just popping a pill that you're already currently doing, right? Levithyroxine or whatever it is for thyroid. Um, you know, are you are you open to that? You know, doing what it takes to get there.
Dr Pompa
Yeah, no, I I I'm open to it, but I feel like I've done a lot of things. I mean, I, you know, but I'm gonna be honest with you. I I've done exercise programs and then I kind of stop. Honestly, I think I stop because I I feel like I don't have the energy to exercise. I, you know, I get that, and I'm like, I don't want to go because I don't have the energy. So I I go there with the good intentions. And I I have to admit too, I've done a lot of diets. I'm in and out of different diets. Um, I think because I don't feel that much different. Yeah. So I'm probably gonna gravitate to the foods I like. But I have to say though, I I still would say I eat better than most of my friends. So I feel like I've done on a lot of things. And I, you know, I I take vitamin D, I take a multivitamin. Um, so I'm I'm taking my vitamins. Okay.
SPEAKER_00
But it's not really getting you where you want to go, is it?
Dr Pompa
Well, I guess not, you know, because um yeah, I'm still complaining.
SPEAKER_00
So, so you want to know where I go with this? Yeah. This is where me, me personally. Okay. So I talk about um, well, if we understand inflammation, cellular damage. Okay. I mean, talking on a cellular level. We understand inflammation is the root of pretty much all metabolic chronic disease, right? Okay. You've heard that before. Nobody denies that. Yeah. Again, I'm talking to Mary. Okay. So, well, I always talk about the uh the splinter. Okay. Here's my skin. If I shove a splinter in there, it's gonna get inflamed. It's gonna cause damage. Yeah. Okay. So you could go to the allopathic Western medical doctor, and they'll be happy to give you medication to mask all the inflammation, to mask all the symptoms. But if they wanted to fix you, wouldn't it make sense to just pull out the splinter? Wouldn't that make sense? Oh, yeah, yeah, okay. All right. Well, then what you could do is you could go to the naturopath, and there's a ton of fun, great functional doctors all throughout the world. Yeah, I'm doing the doctors, the chiropractors, I'm doing acupuncture, the homeopaths, integrative medicine. Okay. Let me guess. A lot of vitamins and supplements and peptides and uh powders and oils and tinctures and I've done a lot of done that, Mary. Okay, okay. All right, and diet protocols, sugar-free, gluten-free, all the elimination diets. Okay, exercise programs. Here's my question, Mary. Did you pull the splinter out yet? Oh no. The splinter that was leading to the inflammation and the damage. Oh no. Okay, and that's fair because most people don't. So the next step in, you know, kind of just making sense of things would then be, okay, well, let's remove the splinter. And that's where people get sucked down the road of all these, you know, gut cleanses and colon cleanses and liver cleanses and parasite cleanses. Okay. Well, and then uh I talk about Dr. Pompa. I say, well, you know, Dr. Pompa calls them poopers. You get some good bowel movements maybe. You've done some of those. Okay. But is it really detoxing you on a cellular level? On a cellular, well, I don't know.
Dr Pompa
So you're saying the splinter is the toxins I've accumulated that I think I'm getting rid of. Yeah. And that's the difference. So you're saying that that the toxins are driving the cell problem.
SPEAKER_00
The cell damage, the inflammation, the oxygen.
Dr Pompa
But how does that I mean I don't understand how that is affecting my thyroid hormone or or my other hormones for that matter, or even my energy. How does that affect me my energy, though? Because I feel like maybe, maybe it's an adrenal problem, or maybe I'm just too stressed.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah. Well, it very well could be that, because again, Dr. Pompa talks about chemical, emotional, physical. So stress is definitely a part of it. Very weird being on this side of this, by the way. Right. Well, it's weird to role play with Dr. Pompa. But um, but anyway, so I mean, when you're talking, so stress is an issue, and that's gonna need to be something that we we could look at and should look at, you should look at that, absolutely.
The Splinter Theory Of Inflammation
SPEAKER_00
But when we're talking the actual, there's something actually physically in your body that doesn't belong there, whether it's lead, aluminum, mercury, glyphosate, uh, on everything these days, atrazine or fluoride in the water supply, or chlorine, or viral bacterial pathogens, or I mean, the list goes on and on and on and on. So if we're looking at those things, if those are your splinters, if they're in there causing oxidative damage and they're actually hurting your cells, does it make sense? Why, yeah, it could be the thyroid, it could be the adrenals, it could be kidney issues, it could be, you know, fatty liver. I mean, it'll manifest in a million different ways, different people. Yeah. But does that make sense how maybe that could be the root cause?
Dr Pompa
Well, you know, and by the way, I'm I'm doing this for them, right? It's like because I I really want them to break through and understand this, right? So thank you for partaking in this with me. I I think if I were them, I'd be thinking, yeah, okay, right, but why is this different? That's what I'd be thinking. Why is this different? And I'm still not, you know, I get it, but there's toxins all around, right? And it's like, and I feel like I'm doing better than most.
SPEAKER_00
See, it's a mindset thing again there. That's what it's coming down to. Because then they think, well, I can't control this, I can't control the air, I can't control. Then I say, Well, there's two types of people. Those that control what they can, because there's a lot within our control. We're in way more control than we realize. Not everything. There's always so. Are you the type of person?
Dr Pompa
Well, by the way, this is the cleanest water, the best water in the world. Oh, fora. I usually have the bottle here. I know that this is the best. And it's 40 parts per million of oxygen saturation and this stuff, and it's living water. They take RO and they make it living. Anyway, it's amazing. I love this water.
SPEAKER_00
Sure. Well, I'll literally say sometimes there's two types of people. Is this glass half empty or half full? Yeah. Which is it? I don't know. That's your perspective. That's your prerogative. That's your choice. So do you choose for that to be half empty? Meaning, well, no matter what I do, I could eat really good. I could take all these different vitamins, but you know, we can't control everything. It's in the air we breathe, the clothing we air, we wear, the microfibers, the plastics. I can only do so much. Okay. Well, I that's your choice. That's your choice. Okay. Or are you a glass half full person? Meaning, I want to control what I can and do the best I can. And then listen, I I I get it that some of these decisions come down to money. Like you talk about organics. I love how you say that, like it's to the point now where I know people say I can't afford it. You can't afford not to. You almost can't afford not to.
Dr Pompa
Yep. Yeah. And and you know, that's the reality. I mean, some what's going in the bucket is a choice, right? Now we're using it as a different analogy, right? You know, meaning if it's really full and ready to spill over, you know, that's most of most people live in America. That's so full that a little bit more stress when people say it's just stress, yeah, the body doesn't know the difference of physical, chemical, emotional stress. Right. Any little bit more of the water is, and here's the symptoms, yeah. And I I think people sometimes need that analogy, right? But if we can lower that chemical burden in your body at the cellular level, now look at the stress you take, right? This one's more full. So it doesn't take as much. I didn't mean for all that to come out, but sorry, there it goes. You're good walk. But the point there is it doesn't take as much stress. Right. This one I can do far more. That one took half of that amount of stress, right? So which one are you, right? Right. I I think that that's the problem with the the first group of people is that they're putting themselves in a normal category because it's so common, but it's not normal. Their bucket is more full than this bucket, and you just saw what happened to that bucket, right? But you know, their bucket's right here in a little bit more. Look, most Americans, you hear the story. Life was good, and then the bottom falls out, and then they're in the second group where I'll do whatever it takes because life's not worth living. Well, guess what? That's the difference between here and here. Meaning, here's where they were when they were like, eh, you know, a little bit of energy loss, da-da-da. Right. But now all of a sudden, that little bit of difference is overflowing. And getting people to make get the understand that is very difficult.
SPEAKER_00
It is, it is, but again, it comes down to accountability and responsibility. And I see, I don't, I hope this isn't taken the wrong way by your viewers and all. I'm not preaching. I'm just believe me, been there, done that, made some bad decisions, bad choices. At the time, I didn't know it. But in this day and age, it's it's uh it's out there. You're out there. Colleagues of yours are out there. The truth, it's it's it's out there. It's if you're not aware of certain things at this point, yeah. And you're saying what it's out there, meaning chemicals are making people sick. Well, the truth is out there as far as what's going on, as far as these things that lead to certain things. Okay. So years ago, we'll start. I mean, my as simple as dental fillings, omalgams, silver fillings, 20, 30, 40 years ago. Okay, it was the standard. It's what you did. In this day and age, I don't even know if it's still legal, if anybody's still doing amalgams.
Dr Pompa
But I know in poor communities, they're still putting silver fillings in that's see, that's sad.
SPEAKER_00
I I know people are still doing root canals. Yeah, but there's no excuse for that. And then people, what do you mean? And and then you have, you know, I mean, so much. What is it, 90? Dr. Mutual Friend Dr. Jerry Kerr Tolto. What 90, 95% of everybody's health begins in their mouth. Yeah, yeah. Right. It's a it I there's different, you know, 80 to 90 percent.
Dr Pompa
Yeah. Yeah, no, meaning that there's so much that happens here that affects here that happens systemic. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00
But the point is, is is that information's out there now. Yeah, okay.
Dr Pompa
So it's out there. However, even though it's out there, it it it almost becomes more confusing to people. Yeah. Yeah. Meaning that again, if I'm the person sitting out there, if I'm Mary, I'm I'm thinking, uh now it's become it's so out there, everything's making you sick, right? I get criticism, criticized for that. Okay, I can't do anything. You know, it's like, I'm not saying that. I'm saying minimize what's coming in if we're concerned, because if this is truly a filled bucket, you know, overflowing is what's making people sick. And that's not my opinion. I mean, this is what the studies show, right? What's changed in the last 60 years, Steve? The amount of toxins that's driving chronic disease.
SPEAKER_00
Dr. Pompa, I commend you and I thank you because I see what you you don't pull punches, you say you put it out there. And I see these comments, and I and honestly, because I'm loyal, because I know what's kind of going on, it it breaks my heart to see these comments. Oh, now I can't eat anything. That's not what he's saying. That's not what you're saying. No, it's and it's sad not for the same thing.
Dr Pompa
By the way, they don't bother me.
SPEAKER_00
So well, and I know they don't. And I loved again the what that episode with Dr. Fab where he said, uh, you can't let what people's opinions matter to you. That's that's that's their issue. But it saddens me for them. Yeah, yeah. It saddens me for them.
Dr Pompa
That's what's sad. Because that's their mindset. Yes. And that mindset is leading to the chronic disease. That's the thing. Yes, right. It's like where my mindset, your mindset, you know, the person who got well mindset is man, I'm gonna do whatever it takes. Not to become a statistic. Therefore, if this is what's causing the disease and the chronic illness, then I'm going to do something about it because I have choices day in, day out, what I put in and a choice to get it out correctly. Can I share another analogy here? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00
And this is going back to my love, my passion in the martial arts and combatives. I've been an instructor for decades. Okay. So some of the people I instruct are law enforcement first responders. And um, I want to be very clear what I say. Uh, I'm a huge fan of police, military, first responders. This is in no way, shape, or form a knock towards them. They themselves would say what I'm about to say. Okay. But when it comes down to self-protection, people I train, people I teach, okay, self-defense, self-protection, preservation of life is what it comes down to. Preservation of life. Everybody says, well, not everybody, but oh, I don't need that. I get, I can call 911. Uh, I'll just, I'll call 911 and call the police. Well, when seconds count, police are minutes away.
Dr Pompa
You're saying I don't need that. What do you think? I don't need self-defense.
SPEAKER_00
I don't need an alarm. I don't need to lock my doors. I don't need to learn anything. I don't need to have an escape plan. All the things it would prevent. Exactly I don't need it, I'll just call following you. Yeah. And uh, well, when seconds count, police are minutes away at best. And again, that's not a knock towards police. They themselves will tell you that. They're there after the fact to do a crime scene investigation, to figure out what's going on, et cetera, et cetera. Point is you could make that correlation to Western allopathic medicine. They're not there to prevent anything, they're there after the fact. Disease management, sick care is what it is. Of course. So they're not there to prevent.
Dr Pompa
So I try You know, by the way, it it's not the system's not even set up for them. It's not like you don't go to your doctor for him to you know help you change your diet. They're not, they don't even the system's not set up for that. It's symptom. Here's the you know, here's the thing that covers the system. Yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_00
And that wasn't a knock towards Western medical doctors biologists. I want people to hear that. That it's yeah, I don't want anybody to misconstrue that. It's just that, oh, well, once your blood pressure is out of control, once you have diabetes, try that. There you go, try this. This will work. There we go. And that's to manage it. So that's after the fact. But what about before the fact? Because again, going back to my passion, my love, martial arts and self-defense, self-defense itself is just inane. That's that's in the court of law. That's for legality, because really the best defense is going on the offense, not allowing it to happen in the first place. And then people say, Well, I can't control everything. What if this just happens? You're right. Things do happen. You might be in the wrong place at the wrong time. So going back to our world here, you're right. There's always going to be exposures. There's always things we can't control. You can't find, I don't know, sugar-free or seed-free oil restaurants, not all the you can't do the best you can with what you have at that particular point in time, but control the rest. So, again, self-defense, the best defense is an offense. Get in front of it. Be proactive, avoid the situation in the first place. Don't make silly decisions that might lead down to the street.
Dr Pompa
Now I think people watching this would be saying, okay, great, I'm with you, but how do I do that? Right. Right. I mean, you know, meaning there's so many things out there. I don't know what I'm just telling you things I hear, right? It's like, I don't know what's right anymore. Right. Does this cause this? Does this do this? Should I take this? Should I take that? I feel like the more information has caused more confusion. So you're saying, yeah, it's out there now, but I guess what I'm saying is, is that too much is out there now, right? To where now people are almost frozen, and the new excuse is mindset, is I don't know what to do.
unknown
Yeah. Yeah.
Remove The Burden, Stop Adding Tricks
Dr Pompa
What do you, I'm I'm out, what do you do with that?
SPEAKER_00
Well, so you so you're I don't I I I don't I have trouble answering that sometimes. Uh I get it. I get it. But again, I I like to rely on the analogy I gave as far as the are we adding things or removing? Yeah, okay. Okay. All right. So we're not adding any more vitamins or peptides or tinctures or herbs. I mean, that's again, that's fine. That has its time.
Dr Pompa
So you're getting their mindset to you're saying stop worrying about what to add because I don't know what vitamin. I don't know. And typically that's not the the answer anyway, right? People aren't getting sick because of the lack of, you know, people are getting sick because too much of the thing that filled that bucket in the first place, right? So you're saying you bring them back to the mindset of figure out what you can remove from your life. Gotta remove, gotta remove and let the body heal.
SPEAKER_00
And yes, in an ideal world, it should be uh full-fledged, properly run detoxification protocol under you know, your guidance or your team and et cetera. But there's so many things we can remove from our daily life. Um, talk about stress. You want to talk about stress? Well, again, we we kicked off the show talking about it. Don't be doom scrolling, don't start your day on social media, uh watch what you consume as far as uh emotions and imagery and and news channels and et cetera, et cetera. So there's your stress bucket right off the bat. Now, as far as the physical and the chemical, well, the chemicals, again, you can't control everything, but you can make better decisions and better choices.
Dr Pompa
So but you your job, so people know, is you're bringing them in and getting them set up with a coach. So the coach helps them with everything. I just thought about that as a thing, you know, because my answer would be all right, if you're confused, hire a coach, bro. Right? You know what I'm saying? It's like, you know, well, if you want to be a better golfer, my son told me, Dad, hire a coach, right? It's like, you know, because you you want something, you know, hire a coach. He's right, right. If you want to be better at anything, hire a coach, you want to be 100%. I was seeking out the person who knew. I was reading all their books. I was traveling the country. I was seeking out the right person who I felt could help me, right? Okay, so your job is getting them to the coach. Correct. So I I feel like, okay, because I don't want people to overwhelm, right? Because they're gonna say, I don't even know what to avoid. What to okay, your job is to get into the coach. And we're not changing everything overnight, right?
SPEAKER_00
It's if we're not painting the whole house in one day, it's room by room by room, and sometimes it's not even that. It might be windowsill by door sill, by door frame, and then ceiling, and then room, and then the next room. So it's a pro again, yeah, process.
Dr Pompa
Yeah, exactly. It's it's a process, but you oftentimes can't get people to make that step.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah, right.
Dr Pompa
And again, I think group two people, uh, you know, that like, look, I'm my life's done. You know, they're probably easier to get to make that step. They're willing to do anything. Their life's over, that's not worth living anymore. That was me. I would step in. If I thought the doctor had the answer, I'm I'm doing it. You know, it's nothing's stopping me. I'll figure out the monies later. That's because I'm group two. Group one you find hard oftentimes to move into here's your coach. This is the answer. You know it's the answer. I know it's the answer. So you're dealing with a mindset of them not moving forward. Money to me is an excuse. I mean, it's real. I I don't want to, you know, I'm saying I of course, but I, you know, again, in this group it is real. In this group, when you're that sick, you'll figure it out. Okay. But in this group, it is real. You know, you've wasted a lot of money. Yeah. So that's real, right? So um so give me the things that block people from getting their lives back. Money's an excuse. Money, of course. Again, not belief. Not belief. Meaning how do I know I've tried Steve? I've tried so many things. Right. Right. When you're in group two, you know, it's like whatever. It's like I'm gonna try the next thing because I can't live life like this. But when you're in group one, you have the ability to be like a little more selective. Uh you know, I've tried, I'm wasted, I'm not gonna waste another thousand dollars. I've wasted so much, right? So uh belief. So number one, money, belief.
SPEAKER_00
Um give me another broken mindset that it maybe it works for thousands of others, but it won't work for me. Okay. Why are you different? Why? Why? Do you have two arms, two legs? I mean, do you do you breathe? Do you, you know, why? Why would it not? So, what would be the common denominator then? Why would it what what's what's the commonality with all these people that it did work for? Oh, they actually did it. They committed to it, they took that first step. The first, you know, journey of a thousand miles begins with that first step.
Dr Pompa
And maybe even backing up and saying, okay, Mary, you said you did a lot of things, you know. Um, name some of those things. Make it up uh X, Y, Z therapy, a red light, why do you a good question? Why do you think that they failed? Did you do it like exactly the way you should have was recommended? Because that maybe the answer might be not, well, not right. And then you find out. Oh, so it might be you, right? Yes, I did. I did it perfect, perfectly. Well, what did that red light therapy offer? Uh see, was it was it removing something? No, no, it was offering red light. Well, remember in the first part of the conversation, how do you really get well? It's removing something. Yeah, so I guess you have to almost evaluate the things they did to figure out why they failed. You do because it could have been offering something and not removing, and it could have been that they didn't do it.
SPEAKER_00
Right. I'll share. Can I I mean, obviously for obvious reasons, no names and anything like that, but somebody I was just speaking to a few weeks ago, she had a spot of concern on her lower extremities, right? Um, and um she said one of the things she said she was doing is red light therapy. Okay. Um, were you doing the red? Then I I assume that she was doing red light on that spot of concern, whether that works or not. And I'm not saying it doesn't. I know you're not saying I'm just whether the data and studies are out there that it is helpful. I don't, whatever. That's irrelevant. The point is, is she was doing on her face. I said, Do you think so? Do you think doing on, I mean that's great for your face, but do you think it's collagen? Do you think it's systemic? Do you think that's gonna clear up that spot? But she may have not understood that. And she's like, Oh, I guess you're right. I guess no, but and I I had to bring her, I had to have her come to that conclusion. She's like, You you're right, I get it. Yeah, because I don't I'm not so sure it does. Maybe it does. I don't think it does, but I don't know. Do you think, do you think maybe that's why it's not helping you the slightest bit? But meanwhile, she's spending a few hundred dollars per month doing that for six months. So might it be time to do something a little different?
Dr Pompa
You know, that well, I mean, again, I think it's questions too, right? Which you're so good at. Uh it's what, you know, why do you think you have that spot? You think it's the lack of red light? Right. Because ultimately it could the red light could, and I think it would actually help. But that said, it won't solve the problem because you don't lack red light.
unknown
Yes.
Dr Pompa
Yes. You have a spot or an eczema, I don't even know what it was, but um, because something at the cellular level has gone wrong. Right. And then it's like, so what do you think that could be, right? I mean, I love I love to just get people where their thinking's coming from because how do you change their mindset if you don't know where their thinking's coming from? Right. It's like you'd be surprised. You know, they they could think that it's microwave food causing that, right? And getting rid of the microwave, you know, was thought the answer. And I still have it. So I don't know.
SPEAKER_00
Again, from my martial arts and and background and training law enforcement and even military, a big thing is the ODA
Questions That Change Beliefs
SPEAKER_00
loop. O O D A. Observe, orient, decide, act. And that's just all throughout. That's that's uh a big thing with I know you I think you're friends, part of Maha, Gavin De Becker and the gift of fear, and he's a great guy. And OODA loop. Okay. I employ that with people that I meet through you with you. Observe, meaning who what kind of a personality who am I dealing with? Like have how where where are they at in this? And then orient. Okay. And then decide, all right, do I does this person? I mean, they mean well, they just they're just not quite getting what they've missed. And I have to kind of take them down that avenue, that road of them coming to the conclusion.
Dr Pompa
Not me. Yeah, not me. Yeah, yeah, them. And then act about it. I I think that's really important that they have to come to the conclusion. They have to, yeah.
SPEAKER_00
Because if they don't now, they won't later.
Dr Pompa
Yeah, and that's why I like asking questions of um, you know, just what do you think is causing it, right? Uh, because that will sh, you know, basically show their paradigm. Yeah. And if you see where their paradigm or major premises are coming from, then maybe you can change their mindset, right? I think that's what you're saying, right? Yeah. So that's the process that you're saying, right? You know, that you take them through. It is. It is.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah. I mean, so much of in in again, we'll go back to my background in the martial arts. We have uh what you can call it the bridging program, or there's a reason you have white belt, yellow belt, orange belt, you know, and different styles, different things, green, red, blue, black type of thing. You don't jump right to brown belt level or blue or black. You don't do that. It's little baby steps, and that's the process. You get something no pun intended, but under your belt, and then you see the improvements, little improvements, not gangbusters, but little improvements.
Dr Pompa
Yeah,
Three Steps: Why, Appreciation, Service
Dr Pompa
so that said, I'm bringing it all home, right? You know, someone that's out there, you know, what three things would you say start here this week to change their mindset, to create that discipline, to break through where they're stuck, right? Because we're both agreeing that it's mindset of what to go to the next level, whether it's healing, whether it's just more energy at the end of the day, you know, sticking to a program that you know might work, starting a program, all mindset. So if you had three things, three steps, one, two, three, that people could do right now to break through. Because I think that's what this show. Look, in this show, we can't get people doing cellular detox. We can't get people doing this or that, right? It's it's not the point. But if we can give them something to do right now, yeah to initiate, get to get unstuck, then I feel like we've done the the right thing.
SPEAKER_00
Well, right now, I mean, I mean, again, I'm telling you, but I mean, I think the easiest, it's easier said than done. But the easiest, the low-hanging fruit would just be the food, nutrition, right?
Dr Pompa
All right, yeah. So, but that takes discipline. It does.
SPEAKER_00
So it comes back to that.
Dr Pompa
Yeah. So how do I, I mean, Steve, come on. I I'm I'm hiring you as my coach. You know, you've worked with Larry Holmes, Mike Tyson, you've worked with the okay. You know, how I'm just lacking the discipline, man. Help me. I want, I just need these three steps to get me going here, unstuck. Well, because I know I need to change my diet. Here's my question. Everyone out there knows. We know. Here's my question. We're a little confused on what, right, but we still know. We'll get to the what. Why do you need to get better? Why? Because I want, I want my relationship. Remember what I said to you. It's affecting my relationship. It's affecting me going out to dinner with my husband. It's affecting me enjoying life. I just want to enjoy life. I want to be like the way I used to be.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah. Do you need that to be different, or you would just casually like it to be different?
Dr Pompa
Well, again, I'm group one in saying that. But I want it at this point, I want it to be different. If you're in group two, you need it to be different. Correct. Because I can't live life right, but group one, I want it to be different.
SPEAKER_00
What I find, Dr. Pomp, is this it's it's it kind of it's it's so you know overused maybe these days, but your why. What's your why? You've got to have a motivating factor. Because, okay, the discipline comes when you have the motivation, but the motivation comes when you have the discipline, chicken and egg type of thing. Okay, so it takes the discipline, but what is your motivating why? Okay. Why do you need to do this? From what I discover, from at least what I see, it's usually when there's other people involved. Okay. Meaning we only do so much for ourselves, but we'll do more, we'll fight harder when there's a reason to fight, when it's affecting your spouse, when it you've got grandkids that you're doing.
Dr Pompa
So you're saying you would leverage that relationship with the spouse, or maybe it's their kids. Maybe it's not having enough energy to play with their kids. And in Mary's case here, she didn't have enough energy to go to dinner. That's affecting their, yeah. So you're saying to dig at that why.
SPEAKER_00
Well, can I can I respectfully challenge what you just said? I don't want to say leverage.
Dr Pompa
I'm not even sure what I said.
SPEAKER_00
So you said leverage. Leverage implies that I have an agenda. I have no agenda besides trying to serve you as best as possible. And you say you want to get better and I want to see if we can get to that solution for you.
Dr Pompa
So, but as a coach, but yes, what I you know, there probably is a better word. You're trying to get them to do what's good for them. Yeah. Would you agree? I mean, yeah, here I am saying I'm stuck, help me. Yeah. But again, but I'm also saying I don't have the discipline. Yeah. And you're telling me I need to change my mindset. So what I'm saying is help me change my mindset. I could easily say right now, all right, do this, this, this, this, this, I can't do even this thing.
SPEAKER_00
Are they gonna? Probably not. Because if you would have, could have, you should have, you would have done it before. So right now, again, it comes down to the mind, the mind, the mind, the mind. So, how do we get your mind there? I like the little word you you use, leverage, but not that I have an agenda. It's just that for me to be able to help you, let's leverage that. Let's use that. So it's important that you're here to see your grandkids, to see your daughter walk down the aisle at her uh wedding. Uh, so that's important to you. Oh my gosh, yeah, why? Why is that important?
Dr Pompa
Well, because So instead of getting, this is what you're saying, instead of getting people to focus on what they have to do and the how, because the how will stop me, because that's the excuses, right? We already use that as Mary. I don't know how to do it. I don't know what to eat. I don't know how how and what you're saying. The why is the where the emotion is, meaning, you know, it's the fact is, is do you want to have enough energy? I want to have enough energy for my husband, my kids, and I don't. Yeah. So how give me a way of how you would get leverage that uh to get them to because that's what is going to move Mary. You know, that's going to create the discipline. Yeah. If I'm not doing it for myself, you said that in the first thing.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah, you you got to tap into the why.
Dr Pompa
You just have to.
SPEAKER_00
You have to. There's no other option.
Dr Pompa
So you're just reminding her that she's not doing it for her. You're doing it for your kids, your relationship.
SPEAKER_00
At least that's what I see. When people are just doing it for them, it's short-lived. You get caught up in the emotion of that time at that point, but they're not going to continue. They're not going to follow through. When you're not with me, when I'm not here to help you and hold your hand and coach you and inspire you at that point, when that emotion fades, it's fleeting. Okay. You're not going to do it on your own.
Dr Pompa
So, number one, I'm I'm pushing you for three. Number one, get yourself, find your why. Yeah. And it has to be bigger than you. It has to. Right. So it has to be, and that's what you're focused on. So if it's about 10 pounds, it's probably not going to happen. Probably not. Yeah. But if it's about, you know, something else, your family, your kids, you know, staying alive for, you know, whatever. Everyone's why is going to be different. Holding your grandkids, playing, having the energy to play, whatever that is, that's the why. Yeah. Okay. Number two. Um, number two, I'm I'm sorry, meaning what's mean. Exactly. We're trying to, I'm trying to get you to give them the like three things they can do this week. Gotcha. To have the discipline to break through stuck. Yeah. Okay. Focus on your why, a different why than you're probably focusing on. Yeah. Right. And a why is not, I want to be healthy. Right. Yeah. That's not a why. A why is a very emotional, a very emotional something. So whatever makes someone very emotional, that's the why. All right.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah. Um, so things they can do. Well, again, you got to have the mindset, you got to have the why. Um, but then you can you gotta have you gotta have skin in the game. You gotta have skin in the game. You and again, a biblical principle, it's a it's a martial arts tenant, is sacrifice. And and that's what pains me too, I gotta tell you, when I say, when I see people, oh, and and you I can say this, uh, you're not saying this, but it pains me when I see people say, Oh, if he was a real Christian, he'd do it for free. Oh my goodness.
Dr Pompa
Yeah, there's sacrifice. You're saying, yeah, they're that's yeah, you're doing something for free, there's no sacrifice, it typically doesn't work. So you're saying figure out a sacrifice to move to inspire you.
SPEAKER_00
Well, a sacrifice of some it's got to be time, it's gotta be energy, maybe money. Okay. So let's talk about money because that is sometimes a barrier to entry. And I understand it doesn't grow on trees, but if you if your why is strong enough, you'll find a way. You will, you will. But that why has to be there. Um, because I'm uh and again, this uh some people it might rub them the wrong way, but there's been times when I've been down and out. But I if it's a priority, and I know you the same way, I we made it happen because there's nothing in my life and again, that's why the why, because that changes the priority.
Dr Pompa
I I hate to say this, but I have found that most people doing it for themselves is very difficult. Yeah. Because I hate to say it, but they don't think that they're worth it sometimes. I agree. Yeah, or they don't that, but their grandkids are worth. It. Right. You know, maybe their loved ones are worth it or something else in their life that so that that so you're trying to pee back on the why and say there, you know, there's the sacrifice. Yeah. Is um okay. Yeah. I'm I'm just like, yeah, I'm really, I think you're overcomplicating my answer, to be honest with you. I'm literally looking for just basic things. Like if I just met you and you're like, hey, I don't have the motivation. I loved your first answer. Figure out where your why is because I agree with you a thousand fold, man. It's like, you know, yeah, it's you have that moves people. That keeps me. That's how I got my life back. I mean, think about it, the why. Second thing, I'd be like, listen, you need to just do something very obtainable. Maybe it's 10 minutes in the morning where you start the, you know, in prayer. I would be telling people that. You know, because that changed my mindset. Or, you know, let's say someone that's not their thing. Okay. Then I would say, figure out, you know, maybe it's a book, you know, change your morning. Right. You know, maybe I would give them some symbols, start with gratitude. Yeah. Start being grateful for what you have. And all of a sudden that changes. You know, I'm just looking for some simple things for getting. I don't want to fill the gap in. I want the simple things that you can tell someone right now to start doing that will change their pace. Yeah. It will change the way they think, it will change their day. Right. I'd be, I'm stunned sometimes. Like I'll I'll meet somebody, and off the top of my head, they'll ask me something and I'll be like, um, you know, just do this. And it's like, and and you know, all of a sudden I run into this person, you're just like, you know, I did that and it changed everything, got me out of stock. So it's like, that's kind of the things I'm looking for. For sure.
SPEAKER_00
I think one of the biggest things is we talk about gratitude, but um, I I like a see, I'm a believer that words have meaning and they're energy, right? And gratitude is good, but it's fleeting. I like appreciation. Appreciation is lasting, okay. Appreciation, uh, you have to have appreciation first to lead to gratitude. Um, I know, for instance, you talk uh Rak Kazakh, uh, you know, Hebrew saying, and there's another Hebrew word which is which is kadosh, okay. And Idosh, Kadosh, Kadosh. I think it's uh don't quote me on this. I think it Isaiah's 6.1 or but it's it's in many prayers, okay. Many prayers, and it means holy, holy, holy, holy, or separate or different from the rest. What does that really mean? So, what does that mean? Well, it's a holy day or a holiday, it's separate from the others, meaning you treat it, you respect it differently, okay? You appreciate it differently. So I think if we could appreciate more, there's always something to appreciate. Always something to appreciate. Gratitude means, oh, you did something for me. Oh, I'm gracious. Thank you. I appreciate that. Gratitude is fine, but it's fleeting appreciation. And that's I try to instill that in my kids. I think that's the greatest gift we can give is appreciation. Uh, it's how you see the world. It's there's always, is this happening to me or for me? There's always something to be appreciative for. Yeah.
Dr Pompa
So like starting your day and just focusing on the three to five things that you appreciate right now.
SPEAKER_00
Number one, did you wake up that day?
Dr Pompa
That study show it'll change your day.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah.
Dr Pompa
Right. So again, that is a simple, that's one of the things I'm looking for, a simple step to break someone out of stuck, right? So, you know, focusing on, figure out what really your why is, write it down, right? It's like start your day focused on the why. Absolutely. And then second thing is appreciation. What focus. If you start your day focused on those things, that's gonna change your day. If you change one day, you could change two. Third one, yeah, Steve. I'm stuck, man. Uh, we're just at a cocktail party right now, but I'm asking you the question, you don't you can't give me a long answer. I'm stuck, bro. Well, how do I get out of stuck, man? I feel like my life is just stagnant. It's not where I wanted to be right now.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah. My answer would be you got to find something. You gotta, well, you gotta find are you have you tapped into your purpose? Have you? Maybe you haven't, but your purpose, um, it's what lights you up. And that typically comes from serving others. What you do for yourself stays with you. What you do for others stays behind. That's your legacy and that's your true purpose. So have you tapped into your purpose? Do you feel fulfilled? Do you feel satisfied? If you don't, then we need to find something that's gonna fulfill you.
Dr Pompa
I would say most people would answer that today, unfortunately, is no. Yeah. Especially someone who feels stuck. So then um, you know, you might have time for this at a little party, but um, what would be the next thing that you would say, okay, great. How do I find that, Steve?
SPEAKER_00
How do you find that? Well, uh, different people will say different things, but my answer to that is is um is the difference between being selfish and selfless. You gotta, you gotta serve others, you have to help others because when you do that, give and you shall receive. It's actually being very selfish. The more you help out others, the more it comes back. So it actually does serve you. That is tapping into your purpose.
Dr Pompa
Well, yeah, there is a principle of serving your way out of anything. Yeah, depression, sickness, right? Serving your way out changes your state, yeah, changes your mindset. Yeah. So that's it. Okay. That was that was three. Okay. We got three. I took me a while to pull them out, didn't it? Because you know, and oftentimes when you ask people like the simple thing, but you see how complicated this is. I really went at this from the mindset of the person on the other side, of like, I know it's as simple as saying just you know, mindset discipline, saying, you know, it's like in you know, taking what you've learned of martial arts and actually making it applyable, applicable to somebody out on the other side struggling. It's it's hard, bro. It is. You know, it's hard. It is.
SPEAKER_00
Listen, if it was easy, everybody would be doing it. It's one of those things.
Dr Pompa
But you know, that's what I wanted. I I wanted someone on the other side to take away something to get them unstuck. That was the goal.
SPEAKER_00
But uh I want to be clear, don't get me wrong. It's something that I have to work for every day. We all have to strive to work for every single day, every single moment because you could have it in your hands and then it just it's elusive.
Dr Pompa
Me too. I I mean, I that's the point though. I think that's why daily gratitude is important. I start every morning in my Bible in prayer. And it starts, you know, I am what I'm grateful for. Same. And it does change my day. It does. You know, it's like I I, you know, I am very tapped into my whys, right? It's like, and you know, I and I do. I I I have to stay focused on the appreciate what God's done for me. Yeah, you know, because oftentimes, like other people, I'm expecting a breakthrough in something, and it's not happening. It's not happening, right? And that's very difficult for me. Or I can't find a solution, or I can't see a solution. Yeah, like them, I become hopeless. Yeah, but when I focus on the appreciation and the why, yeah, and what he's done for me, yeah, I tend to break through. Yeah. If I don't do that, I don't. So even though we had trouble getting there, you somehow nailed the things that I do too.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah, and I do oftentimes I overcomplicated it. It's it's really just it's it's uh it's funny. It's all these things are in me, it's what I do, but because I do it, it's intrinsic and it just comes second nature. I work for it every day, but I was looking for a deeper, deeper, deeper. And sometimes it's just but you know it's right there.
Dr Pompa
It it's what people can start with right now is then the deep stuff happens. Yeah, gotta work in it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00
So yeah. So the mindset, the appreciation, and and your why. What are you doing this for? What are what what are we doing? Like, what is your end game? What's your goal? What do you want to get out of this? Um, and it it's it comes down to not quantity, but quality, quality of life. Who cares if you live to 100, 100 plus, if the quality isn't there? So again, that's your decisions, your mindset.
Dr Pompa
I tell you, I I I have no desire to live longer without health. Yeah. Remember, when I was sick, uh dying was easy. It was living my life the way it was. My greatest fear. I do, I admittedly, I have PTSD about going back. Yeah, I can't go back. And I would tell my wife that if I had weeks and even then maybe months of having my life back, and then I had like a bad day, God forbid it was two or three, I would be emotionally wrecked and I would say to her, I can't go back. I know. Because it was like it would be like going back in an abusive relationship or you know, whatever the fear. It's hard, man. You know, it's like so it, but the positive out of it, it gives me purpose because I don't want anyone else to go through what I went through. Yeah. I I know I'm called for people to come out of it because I know how painful it was in it. Yeah, you know, it drives me in every bit of me who I am. It drives me to keep, I'm I get I have reversed my cellular age to such a degree. I'm many years younger than my actual age. But a lot of that's come the discipline now has come through my fear, honestly. Again, turning something bad good of not going back. Yeah. And people say, Dr. Baba, how are you so disciplined? I'm like, oh, because I was blessed to get really sick.
SPEAKER_00
Right, right.
Dr Pompa
And out of that sickness and the fear of going back, I'm really disciplined now.
SPEAKER_00
So you chose to allow the adversity to refine you, not define you, refine you. And um, I'm so glad that I was uh be honest, I was a little concerned that you were gonna ask me specifics about my adversity. And I'll tell you, you admitted it. I'm mad enough to admit, I have PTSD as well. I don't want to go there. I don't even want to think about the nightmare periods in my life. It almost was like an out-of-body experience going through them. Like I can't even believe that happened to us, type of thing. And I don't want to go there, but that's again the discipline. That's the motivating factor to not to do anything it takes to make sure that doesn't happen again. Number one. But number two, I realized, you know, going through it at the time, you know, um, maybe not so much, but in hindsight, I realized I already always had a great relationship with God. And but I think God wanted uh an even tighter relationship because that's when push comes to shove. You know when you know what what what what do you have? What do you have? Nothing but God.
Dr Pompa
You know, it's like I I I know I went through a time where it was hard to talk about because you don't want to revisit it, you know, you don't there's emotional triggers. There is, you know, and um, you know, but it's that reframing that now I know that I would never be the man God needed me to be without going through those. And I'm not even talking about my sickness like you, I'm talking about other hard things that happened to me, right? And then our family. And you know, it's like um, you know, it's now I have a whole different view of it, right? So it's it's easier for me to talk about where it wasn't at one time because I know most of who I am came out of that. And what are you doing with that though? You're helping others, yeah.
SPEAKER_00
Okay, and again, yeah. I mean, it sounds redundant, but you could say it a million times, it would never be enough. Pain to purpose. Yeah, pain to purpose.
Dr Pompa
Yeah, yeah, you know, I think that's another lesson for people out there is that believe it or not, most people watching this right now are there's something in their life that they're trusting God for. They don't want or they want something else, right? I mean, yeah, that's normal. That's you said it in the very beginning. You said that's life, right? It's like that's life. It's full of suffering, you know, and um I I think the the I can say this the older I've gotten, the better I am with it going through it. But it something, you know, sometimes it you know it doesn't get easy. I mean, like you know, I mean it's still not easy, is the word I'm looking for. Or whatever doesn't kill you. It's gotten easier, but it's still not easy, right? Going through hard times is not easy. It's not. It's not, but it's gotten easier.
SPEAKER_00
Nobody ever said it was. That's the illusion that we're living under. That we think it should be rainbows and unicorns, and everybody should just get what you want right away, and and it should just be easy. That's not reality. It wasn't designed to be that way.
Dr Pompa
Absolutely. You know, what one of the things I always say is to people, I find myself saying to people is, well, start asking God a different question, you know, meaning instead of just asking for healing, if that's the case, or breakthrough for this or that, start asking a different question. Okay, what do you want to teach me in this? Yes, what am I not seeing that I need to see? Yes. And, you know, and Lord, what you know, what what are you doing with it? Right. It's like I I just prayed that with my sister, you know, who's going through a health thing, right? And um, it was, and not just her, me. I said, okay, Lord, what do you want to teach me in this for her? I love it. Right? It's like because like he's not giving us the answer, you know, this isn't working. Yeah, stuck. She's stuck. It's like, so it's like I start saying a different prayer. Yeah. I said a different prayer. And now let's see what happens. That's amazing.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah, listen, it's uh life is a game, it's not a battle, it's a game. If you learn the rules of the game, and what are those rules? Those are spiritual principles. We're living a spiritual, this is a spiritual existence just in human form. Okay, it's it's all uh a spiritual world. So what message, what where did I fail? What am I missing on a spiritual level here? What is God trying to tell me? What are we what and and and and maybe you'll keep repeating or you'll keep feeling the pain or suffering in some way, shape, or form because maybe you haven't learned the lesson quite yet.
Dr Pompa
Yeah, no, exactly. And we tend to God will He loves us so much, He'll tend to let us go through it again differently. No kidding. You know, until um you know, you break through, you know, I'm I'm I'm going through it with something else that God wants me to, you know, break through on, you know, because he loves me that much. And also ask yourselves that question, right?
SPEAKER_00
See, but I love what you just said, because he loves me that much. Yeah, yeah.
Change Your Words, Change Your Inputs
Dr Pompa
Yeah, see, you know, that's we've reframed our words around things. Yeah. But your words are the first thing that you have control over to change your mind. True. So we can sit there and say, have more discipline, change your mind, mind sets everything. Well, I I can't change my mind. No. You know, it's like I I'm I have this. So we have to start speaking of things differently. And then one, then our subconscious hears our own word. Yes. And then we can start to change our mind based on the words that we speak. Yes. I always tell my kids, it's like, even if you don't believe it, just speak it that way, and eventually your subconscious will agree with you. It's like and go, oh now, you know, so maybe that's a fourth one. You know, it's like change the words before you even believe.
SPEAKER_00
So true. Right. And if we can't control our words, what else can we control? It's hard, don't get me wrong, when people you want to get caught up in negativity or gossip or even saying negative things about yourself. Oh, I'm so stupid. Oh, I'm so this. Right. Your words have meaning. Your words have power. Words have power, words have meaning, and we have control over those. We do. And again, those are choices we make. You reap the rewards or suffer the consequences.
Dr Pompa
And people will say, Well, you have control over your mindset too. Well, it's not that simple. You do in the sense that you can change it, and that's what we're talking about here, but you, you know, we get the subconscious holds things that you don't even understand because they were given to you as a kid. Right. Right. And certain fears do things, and the body does things to protect itself. So it's not like I can change my mind right today, you know, to a successful mind. I can't be here. I don't have belief. It's like, no, it's like that that's because the way God developed our brain, you know, it's like that can take.
SPEAKER_00
I love that you brought that up. I'm in agreement 100%. And that's going back to the people that say, Well, I can't control my thoughts anyway. So screw it, forget it. Oh, and then they don't care about the word. That's a free pass to not worry about the words. The words you can control, yeah. Thoughts you can't. Yeah. They pop in crap. Yeah.
Dr Pompa
It's like, why do you think that?
SPEAKER_00
Yeah. Yeah. But the words can be used as a little bit of leverage to start training and retraining and reframing and rewiring the thoughts. They, what's what is spoken, what comes out, you can control. You can control it. Every time you go to say something, catch yourself, catch yourself. And it will become easier. It does become easier, just like anything else. It's a muscle you work. Never gonna be able to change the thoughts.
Dr Pompa
Benazati, um, I interviewed him here. He has a huge podcast, you know, um, just reaches a lot of people. Yeah. Uh yeah, he was a student of mine for many, many years, still is, you know, in many ways. I love him so much. Every time I'm with him, maybe it's a car drive, because we would go, uh we would drive up to do these um these virtual seminars, right? And we did it like maybe three of these. And I would get uh a like a three-hour car ride with him. And I always looked forward to it because he would always play these tapes, and um he would put the like motivational tapes of all sorts, right? And he would always say, Do you mind if I let I'm like, No, no, I don't mind at all, right? And he would play the tapes, and I'm telling you, those car rides with him always transformed my thinking, right? Because but he does this every day. So this one that he was listening to, he already listened to it 51 times. Okay, over and over again. How do you know it's 51? Because he counted, because he counted, okay, he counted 51 times. I'm telling you, he became the person that he is. Yeah, because he listened to Bob Proctor's tape, okay, yeah, more than 51 times. So that was but this other one was 51 times, okay? And I don't even remember who it was. But he listens to these things, so it's a principle. Yeah. It's like, so we're talking about what you speak, yeah, but what you speak is oftentimes of what you hear. Yeah. Right. So if you notice, Ben speaks differently than most people, not like the way he speaks, you know, but meaning the words he uses, the positivity, yeah, the you know, how he frames things. Yeah. Well, how did he get there? He he didn't change his thinking, his mind overnight. He got there by listening to these things over and over again. And he says, even when I'm not, because what my excuse was is Ben, you know why I don't put these things on because I'm thinking about other things and I don't want to not listen. And I'm I'm very focused listener, which I am. So I believed my own BS, okay. But the reality is, is he said, you know, it doesn't even matter. He goes, half the time I'm not listening, right? My subconscious is still here. And then I'm then I hear things and I'm in and out of listening anyway. So I just put it in and he got me, right? It's like because you know, that's the key. If you want to change the way you think and and the way you speak, you have to change what you're listening to, what you're reading. But he listens to this stuff all the time. Right. Every time he's in the car, music's not on. Yeah, Bob Proctor's on.
SPEAKER_00
And that's going back to what you're consuming. It's not just about the food, the nutrition, what you're coming from through your eyes, through your ears, what you're intaking. It's because what you're taking in is becoming you. Yeah. Uh yeah, for sure.
Dr Pompa
Yeah, but now all he does is, I mean, he is influential. He changes people, he speaks to people. He, you know, he's you in a conversation with Ben, um, in an instant, he'll be asking you about you. Yeah, he'll be asking, digging, digging. It's positive. And he's done. I'm telling you, well, how did he get there?
SPEAKER_00
Yeah.
Dr Pompa
Not by luck. These tapes.
SPEAKER_00
These tapes, but consistency 51 times.
Dr Pompa
51 times. I think he that Bob, the other one, it was it was hundreds. Yeah. Hundreds. Here, you know what my stupid mind said wasn't? Well, I heard that. I listened. Oh, yeah, I listened to that. Because that's what I told him. Oh, yeah, I heard this. I listened to that. Oh, how many times? Yeah. Once? I didn't know that was the wrong answer. It's like one time, I heard it. I got it. Yeah. Yeah. No, man. It's again and again and again.
SPEAKER_00
And that's the again, excuses. Well, oh, I'll do it when I can devote all my attention to it. Does that day ever come?
Dr Pompa
It never does. So it doesn't, and you know, there's no such thing. I don't read the Bible because I can't, I don't remember what I just read it. I don't care if you don't even understand it. God's word will change your brain, your heart, your mind. You know, God's word, play it. Listen, I don't understand. Doesn't matter. His word spoken over you will change your life. It'll change your words. It'll change your brain. It'll change your so his word will change you. Play it. Listen to it. Read it. Whatever avenue you have, because everybody has an excuse why they don't want to do it. You know, it's like, but forget about it.
SPEAKER_00
You know, probably I don't want to assume, but we're probably wrapping this up soon. Let's take a full circle going back to
Champions Train The Basics Daily
SPEAKER_00
the very beginning. You talked about Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson.
Dr Pompa
You read my mind. Look, I'm bringing it back to Larry Homes.
SPEAKER_00
Great minds, think alike. Well, here's where I'm going with this. What made him a great, one of the greatest, if not the greatest heavyweight champion of all time, along with Mike Tyson and all these other people? Okay, why? Well, because think about this. Boxing. In boxing, you got four, not 20, not 30, not 50 punches, four basic punches. Jab, cross, upper hut, uppercut, and a hook. That's it. Four. Four punches.
Dr Pompa
What was it?
SPEAKER_00
There's jab, jab, cross, hook, uppercut.
Dr Pompa
What's cross mean? It's like the backhand crossing your body, crossing the center line, coming across.
SPEAKER_00
That's like the knockout blow, the knockout punch. Jab, cross, hook, uppercut. Okay. Four punches. Every boxer on the planet from the beginning of time, from the beginning of boxing until today, has those. Four same punch. There's variations. There are variations of those four. I get you. Okay. But for all intents and purposes, there's four punches. Why do some people become great at mastering those and others can't do it? Again, talk about Benazati. It's consistency. It's does a person go in and throw a jab at a cross maybe 10 times, maybe 20 times, maybe for two or three rounds, or do you do it for five, six, seven hours a day for six months in a row and year in, year in out? And then also, again, coming back to the why. What's your motivating factor? Why? Why do you need to become great? Why do you need to put that jab, cross, hook, uppercut in such why do you need to become the greatest? Why? Why? You don't have to. You could just, you know, be get in pretty good shape, going through the workout, become good, but what's the difference between good and great? And I think it's it's in certain people. They either have it or they don't. And then there's other people that just they've suffered so much that they need to. There's no option to it. There's no other option.
Dr Pompa
Yep. Muhammad Ali, what did he say? I'm the greatest of all time. I am the greatest. I am the greatest. He was speaking it. It's a good impression. And then he became You're right. Right? He spoke it out loud. Yeah. Because people, the one time, people were like, he's crazy. He's not the greatest. Like, what do you but you know, but he became the greatest of all the time. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00
For sure. Yeah. Sure. And he also said, suffer now, suffer now, put the pain in, yeah, so that I can live the rest of my life.
Dr Pompa
So you knew Larry Holmes, right? You know Larry. Yeah he might might how does Larry talk about the Muhammad all these days? Oh, he has to be able to do that. How many times did he fight Muhammad?
SPEAKER_00
Okay, one time. I thought it was twice. Just one time. And yeah, he beat him, and that was all controversial simply because it was kind of uh Ali's later years. Yeah. But but we'll talk about the process. There's the process in action. Does he say that?
Dr Pompa
Oh, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_00
No, no. Yeah, I mean, but does he say, hey, I beat him because it was his later years, or does he say, you know Well, it's not that he beat him, it's because of his later years. It's that it that he um it was a tough fight after the afterwards he um he was in tears because he he did hurt him and they had to stop the match and because Ali just couldn't do it. It wasn't it wasn't the old Ali, okay? Yeah and then he even went into the dressing room afterward and said, sorry, champ, I'm sorry, man. You know, I'm sorry. He acknowledged that was the answer right now. He acknowledged if you're sorry, why'd you beat me up so bad? And then uh, but I mean it it it's still a sport, it is what it is, it's a game. There was a purse at stake, and you know, and all that. So he had to do what he had to do. But going back to the process, how did he become great? Because he was a sparring partner of Muhammad Ali. Yeah, so he's been there, done it, he's he's where Larry Holmes wanted to be. Follow the path, follow the process. And he literally was his sparring, he was his sparring partner for Ali and also Joe Frazier, yeah, another one of the greats.
Dr Pompa
Yeah, smoking Joe Frazier.
SPEAKER_00
So look at that. Success leaves clues, as they always say. Yeah, follow the process. You got two of the greatest ever, and then Larry wanted to become one of the greatest. You follow the path, you follow, and you do exactly what Ali did, exactly what Frazier did. You work with them and you become that as well. So he manifested it. Now you gotta have the great, you gotta have the why, you gotta have the motivating factor, you gotta have the discipline, you gotta have all the mechanics behind it to make that happen.
Dr Pompa
But yeah, so what did you do with Tyson?
SPEAKER_00
So I I worked for him a couple times as far as ring announcing his promotions. Yeah, yeah.
Dr Pompa
But still, again, in you know, in the premise of one of the greats, you know, and Mike's smarter than people think.
SPEAKER_00
Absolutely. I'm so glad you said that. He is very, very spiritual. He's deep. He's a he's a and I remember a couple times privately chatting with him, and and uh again, had it because he suffered so much, so much pain, so much loss, so much adversity, people don't even know. Most people would crumble, most people would have packed it in, most people would have died uh going through the challenges that he went through. He's gone through some really, really tough times. But what did that do? Yeah, it brought him even closer and more closer to God, even more spiritual. He's a deep, deep thinker, yeah, very intellectual, very cerebral.
Dr Pompa
He says is everybody has a plan until you get punched in the face. And there's reality to that, right? Because life punches you in the face, right? I'm gonna do this with my life, I'm gonna do this with life. I found my kid, my, you know, yeah, good luck to you. If you, you know, if you just leave it there, it sounds like a negative, but it means that life will punch you in the face. And then all it means is, you know, your plan changed because God had a new plan in my mind, right? Absolutely. So in my mind, is everyone has a plan until God allows you to be punched in the face. Yeah, and then you pivot. Yeah. Because your plan is not his plan.
SPEAKER_00
It's what you do with it at that point that matters, that counts.
Dr Pompa
So Mike had some wisdom on it. Yeah, and still does for sure. Yeah, that's great.
