THE DENTIST MISTAKE LEAVING MILLIONS IN CHRONIC PAIN
Your mouth could be the hidden source of brain fog, chronic inflammation, and symptoms no one can explain.
Recorded in Cannes, Dr. Daniel Pompa sits down with biological dentist Dr. Olivia Hart to explore the connection between oral health and whole-body wellness. They discuss hidden dental infections, mercury fillings, gum disease, metal toxicity, and why many serious dental problems cause little or no pain until they become advanced.
Dr. Hart also shares her own journey from chronic illness to biological dentistry, explains how safe mercury removal works, and discusses a more conservative approach to cosmetic dentistry, biocompatible materials, and reducing dental anxiety.
If you want to understand how your oral health could be affecting the rest of your body, this episode is a must-listen.

Why Dentistry Can Harm Health
SPEAKER_01
Dentistry has the highest numbers in most chronic diseases, even suicide.
SPEAKER_00
In our mouths, there is so much pathologic bacteria, and I would say this is hidden infection, disease that can destroy your whole body, and you wouldn't know that because it doesn't hurt.
SPEAKER_01
Mercury vapor goes into our brain and then it turns to inorganic mercury and it's stuck for life.
SPEAKER_00
Anxiety doesn't come just from the procedure, but anxiety in our patients comes from unknown. What we'll get, what kind of material you'll get to my mouth. Anxiety also comes from the judgment.
Meet The Compassionate Gentle Dentist
SPEAKER_01
Here we go, live from Cannes, France. Okay, I have had a lot of incredible dental interviews, but I'm here with the who is known as the compassionate dentist. Is there such a thing? There is such a thing. And she is also known as the gentle dentist. There's you're gonna learn something here because many of you are afraid of dentists. You will not be afraid of this gal right here. Okay, so yeah, that is your reputation.
SPEAKER_00
Right. That's my reputation. Because as a patient myself, I'm terrified of the city. Oh, Dr.
SPEAKER_01
Olivia Hart, by the way, and she's all Hart. Okay, yeah. So tell us your story because obviously you are you are known as the gentle dentist. For people who fear dentists, they come to you, they love you. Your people love you. And because you are so gentle, people aren't in pain, and you have a process. We'll talk about that. But I want to hear your story first. How you got into biological dentistry, safe dentistry, dentistry, period. Tell the story.
Mercury Exposure Sparks A Career Shift
SPEAKER_00
So um, thank you for asking me this question. Uh, first of all, I of course, as everybody, I started as a traditional dentist. I went to traditional dental school. Um, but there are two things which brought me to biological dentistry. Number one, I'm from Western Europe. Um, I was born in Ukraine, and I was actually born in a family of medical professionals, my grandparents. So my grandmother was um cardiologist. And when I was a child, I spent lots of time with her, and she introduced me in our play to uh medical care. But the medicine in uh that time was kind of what we call functional medicine. We they looked for a root cause. And then in Eastern Europe we were exposed to something what is called, I would call it ancestral biohacking. So uh we cured uh diseases with the food, we had the cold plunge, hot sauna. Well okay, so all of that influenced me in the early.
SPEAKER_01
Well, who grows up like that? I mean, honestly, yeah, I didn't grow up that way. I grew up healthier than most people, but that was really Yeah, it it was the food, you know.
SPEAKER_00
We we've grown our food, we we know what what it is when the food smells like food. So, anyway, when I came to the United States, I went to traditional dentistry, and it was my passion. Medical field always was my passion. And after I graduated from dental school, I actually started traditional practice from scratch. And I was very successful, I was getting busy, I had lots of patients, but as I was getting more and more successful, I noticed I was getting sicker and sicker. I had all classical symptoms styroid, brain fog.
SPEAKER_01
You were you were drilling out mercury fillings, drilling them out all day round. And by the way, dentistry, I want to point this out, has the h the highest numbers in most chronic diseases, even suicide, which is crazy. And that's murculism, that's mercury poisoning. Right. But you were getting all these symptoms.
SPEAKER_00
I was depressed.
SPEAKER_01
Wow, yeah, depressed, yeah.
SPEAKER_00
You were mercury poison. Like all classical symptoms. And then, secondly, when my patients came and they asked me, okay, I keep coming to you. I'm I keep getting all this nice work, but the cavities keep coming. So, what's going on? What can I do? I didn't have the answer. I didn't have lots of the answers for my patients. So that's when I started to kind of thinking to myself, is that the profession I want to pursue? And I got to the point that I was so depressed, I was so sick that I sold my practice, and I was thinking of living dentistry, period.
SPEAKER_01
Yeah.
SPEAKER_00
And um, I was lucky that I came one day to a dentist just looking at her practice, just looking at what's out there. And it wasn't fully biological practice, but she was practicing you know, partly holistic dentistry. She was doing amalgam removal. And that's when I've heard about safe mercury removal, looking for root cause. And so when I've heard those words, I felt that kind of it was you know, it was close to my heart. So I went ahead and this is what you were designed for. Yeah. And then it was uh 11 years ago. So I bought semi-biological, semi-holistic practice and I started my journey of learning, and I started my journey of healing. So I did learn, I went to conferences, I went through the entire world, it's not not just within the United States, and I learned so much about detoxing, uh, healing my body. Of course, I came back to my original roots of eating, sleeping, you know, cold plunge, so now all of that.
SPEAKER_01
Yeah.
SPEAKER_00
And you know, this this was my journey of turning the practice uh to fully biological holistic practice. And um, you know, I'm a founder right now of Virginia Biological Dentistry.
SPEAKER_01
Yeah, and and that's in Virginia.
SPEAKER_00
Yes, Richmond, Virginia.
SPEAKER_01
Give them how to contact you, or you can do it too right here.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah, okay. We are located in beautiful Richmond, Virginia. Um, we have a beautiful facility with all possible technologies. I'm very big on technology and research, and we treat people from all over the United States and even sometimes from Europe.
SPEAKER_01
A lot of my people. Lots of you have people. You know, and and I I I want to get to the question of how you became known as the gentle or the compassionate dentist. Uh, there's a there's a reason for that. Um, but that's why people do love you, because people that are afraid, they're not afraid the moment they meet you, number one. But you your process is a little different too, which makes people like never in pain. So talk about that.
SPEAKER_00
So,
Reducing Dental Fear Through Compassion
SPEAKER_00
right now I'm focusing on uh biological surgery and ceramic implants. And let me share with you, as a patient myself, I come from Western Europe. Of course, we are famous for having baptism. And I'm terrified of dentists.
SPEAKER_01
Jesus one.
SPEAKER_00
Listen to this. When I started practicing, I was terrified of patients because okay, this explains everything. Yes, I know what what you go through. This could be a very sensitive place. So through the years of practicing, I gathered all the techniques how to make process the least traumatic, not just in terms of the surgery, but mentally as well. So I I could say I became a psychologist of dental field. So first of all, it's a process because the anxiety doesn't come just from the procedure, but anxiety in our patients comes from unknown what will get what kind of material you'll get to my mouth. Uh the an guy the anxiety also comes from the judgment. They those people, lots of them, they haven't been to a dentist for many years, yeah, because they are just afraid what will happen.
SPEAKER_01
Yeah.
SPEAKER_00
And so, first of all, my um exam is different because I get to know them on the deeper level. And for lots of the patients, it's not what kind of treatment you do for them, but what their personal goal is. So we get to their personal goal and we adjust the treatment to their personal goal. Lots of them they say, I want to I feel there is something wrong. I have the anxiety, I have brain fog, I I have this and this and this.
SPEAKER_01
Because it's windy, bring it up. Okay.
SPEAKER_00
Okay, and uh you know, I just want to feel better. Uh some other people say I haven't been to a dentist, I cannot smile anymore. So, you know, the main part, the first step is to listen to them what exactly their goal is. And then, of course, the the next step is the technique. So, for example, when I do my surgeries, I develop the techniques that they're so gentle. We uh the way I do my extractions, biological extractions, placing the implants, it's just so uh gentle and considerate of the uh mouse biology of the text.
SPEAKER_01
But your process probably takes more time because you're just doing you because you are moving with such precision and gentleness. And so I mean you you're not gouging things out, which drives a lot of post-pain, post-bleeding, right? Because because you're sensitive. You you are them in fear, and you've identified with them. That's the compassion.
SPEAKER_00
That's exactly yes.
SPEAKER_01
Compassion driven out of your own fear.
SPEAKER_00
Exactly.
SPEAKER_01
Of course, probably the best flex.
SPEAKER_00
Perfect less said, Dr. Fomba.
SPEAKER_01
Yeah, exactly. So you've developed this procedure that really is, yeah, and it like I said, you're known for it, you know, that you're doing these cavitation surgeries, getting out infection that is making people really sick, which normally, you know, leaves people in pain and you know, they you they're fearful, but you do it with you know such excellence that you're known for it.
Healthy Veneers And Material Testing
SPEAKER_01
Okay, I have to ask you about this because you're also known for um cosmetic work and um doing it right. There's a lot of problems with veneers done right or wrong. Can veneers be healthy? How what are healthy veneers versus non-healthy veneers, and how do you do it healthy and right?
SPEAKER_00
So, number one, you have to look at the materials because the thing is we can make veneers from uh several different materials, but you need to look at biocompatibility. Yeah. So that's where it starts first, because the patients come with different sensitivities, so not even not all ceramic materials are made equal. Number two, it's about the conservative approach, because you can remove so much tooth structure that you know you you destroy the teeth.
SPEAKER_01
So uh just for people to understand, because my teeth were destroyed from mercury and and I had to get some veneers. Now they take off the tooth, a lot of the tooth, right? So if you take off too much, you can kill the tooth, or or maybe not right away, but eventually. Right. So you have to take off just enough that the veneer's strong enough, but not that the tooth is reaching.
SPEAKER_00
And lots of the times we can make non-prep veneers. For instance, in some cases, we don't have to remove the tooth structure. So we can just add the material, don't damage your own tooth, and make you feel beautiful, confident, and happy about the treatment.
SPEAKER_01
So the procedure, obviously, you know, you're you're known for that. Um, what materials are good, which ones are bad? Because if not people go to Greece, for example, or Turkey. Turkey, I'm sorry, not Greece. Turkey, and they get veneers for um very cheap. Yeah. Um, and then you look at them, maybe I look at them and I go, oh yeah, they look cheap, right? I mean, yeah. So what's a good veneer versus a bad veneer?
SPEAKER_00
Well, you know, there are lots of materials nowadays there. And each material is good for a particular case. So uh getting veneer from somebody who knows that there is no one material which fits all. And as I said, we have to encounter the biocompatibility.
SPEAKER_01
Because for example, how yeah, how do you know who what's bio what's biocompatible for you may be different than me.
SPEAKER_00
Right, exactly. For example, Emacs material. This is a beautiful material for the veneer. But do you know when I Emacs? Emacs. But when I've done biocompatibility testing for lots of my patients, it's not good for them. So you have to look for another material. There is feldsparic material, which is which is there's there's pure porcelain veneers, there's um I mean there's there's multiple types. Multiple types, but the biocompatibility test, they draw your blood, and you can go to the labs which specifically uh involve in biocompatibility testing. So they draw your blood and they test for all possible materials, and they will tell you this is good for you and this is not.
SPEAKER_01
So you would apply the same if you put a crown on. You're you're no matter what, you're gonna use a um porcelain type of crown, not a metal crown or not a pl uh composite one. But to your point, though, there's still crowns of different types, and you want to know which one worked good. So what are when they take your blood, are they looking at antibodies against certain materials? Right, right, yes. Okay.
SPEAKER_00
And they analyze it against the materials which we are using in dentistry, and they will give me a report, everything starting from the bonding material ending up to the material which we can which we'll use for restorative.
SPEAKER_01
Yeah.
Hidden Infections Mercury And Metal Stress
SPEAKER_01
In in your opinion, what what is the most destructive thing that happens in the oral cavity that makes people sick unknowing?
SPEAKER_00
Wow, there are so many of them. You know, in dentistry, there I can tell you a couple of a couple of things. So, first of all, the worst one, of course, is mercury.
SPEAKER_01
Yeah.
SPEAKER_00
And then, of course, this in our mouths there is so much pathologic bacteria, and I would say this is hidden infections, hidden infections, gum disease that can destroy your whole body, and you wouldn't know that because it doesn't hurt.
SPEAKER_01
Yeah, absolutely. I agree.
SPEAKER_00
And then, of course, different metals, galvanic effects, galvanism, opposing metals.
SPEAKER_01
I mean, all of it made me sick, every bit of it. That's why I'm so passionate about this topic because so many people are out there, you know, not understanding that they don't feel well because of this, and they're spending all this money on doctors, practitioners, testing, you name it, biohacks, hormones, and it's here. Right here. And I hope that people hear this message. You know, from Cannes, France, I've interviewed some of the top dentists in the world, you know, and you know, for this reason, because I'm passionate about it. And, you know, we were all in a documentary uh together uh Bio Dentistry. Yes, and uh people are gonna see that. Not yet, but you're gonna see it. Um, but I I I had to um ask the question how long, okay, so you were sick as the uh, you know, that's what brought you into it. Then how long after you switched did you start getting your life back again, right? Meaning like you were majorly toxic. Right. From dentistry.
SPEAKER_00
You know, I'm working, I'm working on that every day.
SPEAKER_01
You need my program. You should be in my I'm serious. Because that's why I asked the question selfishly. I was like, you know, I because here's why. I know you still have mercury in your brain. Not because I know the nature of mercury. It turns to inorganic mercury in the brain. Right. It's half-life is longer than you live. Okay. So I it's stuck there. Inorganic mercury does not come out. Yeah. So it goes, comes out as a vapor, mercury vapor. You're drilling, or if you have amalgams in, mercury vapor goes into our brain.
SPEAKER_00
Yes.
SPEAKER_01
It happened to me, and then it turns to inorganic mercury and it's stuck for life. And the there's only one safe way to get it out. And I've been teaching doctors 20 years that way.
SPEAKER_00
So I I can tell you you are doing a great job because I see lots of your patients, and they come to me and they say you change their life.
SPEAKER_01
I want to change yours fully too. Thank you. The the fearful, the the the gentle dentist, I can tell you when you do the process right of machelation, it's the same way. Right. It's gentle, and that's the way it should be. But it's it it's the only way that works to get it out of the brain.
SPEAKER_00
But I think if you work in dentistry, this is a lifelong process. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01
Because you know, I'm exposed by just just coming to my absolutely it's just yeah, you have people coming in there that have silver fillings, and even when you do everything right to protect you and the patient, right? You're still getting exposed to some degree. So you're right, it's lifelong. You need to learn my process. We're gonna get out in the program, folks. That's that. But this is the gentle dentist, the compassionate jet dentist, is what we'll call you. But you are the most gentle, that's what I've heard. So tell them where to find you one more time in Virginia.
SPEAKER_00
Okay,
Kids Airway Care And Closing
SPEAKER_00
we are in beautiful Richmond, Virginia. Uh, the place is called Glen Island, and my practice is called Virginia Biological Dentistry.
SPEAKER_01
Virginia Biological Dentist.com. Is that your website too?
SPEAKER_00
Uh yes, dot com. Yes, and I'm founder of the Virginia Biological Dentistry. For instance, we are working hard to give people the best experience, the best materials, uh, the best of the best, because this is our pa passion.
SPEAKER_01
Yeah, that's who you are.
SPEAKER_00
Right. We we bring it through the heart and we bring it to our patients.
SPEAKER_01
Awesome. Well, that's that's fantastic. Do you see a lot of kids because you're so gentle? Of course you do.
SPEAKER_00
So we see the kids, and we see, for instance, we see kids for their airway and uh sleep apnea because it's a it's pandemic right now. And I see how modern food, modern lifestyle affects the kids. And uh my my heart is kind of I have a son six years old, and he also started the journey with statins, breathing issues, and that's why I'm yeah exactly passionate about that as well.
SPEAKER_01
If I have a young child and I was taking him to a dentist and they were fearful, I'm going to her. Thank you for being here, taking your time out of Cannes, busy Can, and uh thank you for the education.
SPEAKER_00
Thank you, Dr. Funpo. By the way, I was trying to meet you for so many years because I see so many patients from you, and I really admire what you do because maybe you don't hear it in person, but when they come somewhere else, they tell me, and it's kind of transformational what you do for them.
SPEAKER_01
Yeah, thank you. Well, pain to purpose. Yes, yep, that's it. That's my goal. All right, stay tuned for the next incredible episode, maybe right here from Cannes in France, live.
